As usual "Mr. Class & Character" Saban leads in another slimey recuiting issue. UAt is the NCAA leader in over signing. http://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/2013/sec-oversigning-2013/. I guess when you sign recruits with the character he does you need a few extra to take the place of the latest convicts I mean players.
Everybody oversigns. It's part of recruiting. The kids know this going in. The marginal ones just don't want to be that odd man (or men) out.
Fine and good, except ESPN tried to turn Les into the poster child for oversigning with their little OTL hit piece a couple of years ago, when he isn't even the worst offender in the conference. Nary a peep about Saban, or Houston Nutt who IIRC did it to a ridiculous extent that year.
You should read AJC more often. This piece has been up on CBS sports and others. Who cares, it's good to be king.
Well that's it wouldn't be news since everyone knows they're both shady. People like to make news of things that don't fit, such as Priests and altar boys; female teachers and male students; Presidents and cigars. I used sexual examples. There are a lot of other situations in which this can be seen, I just choose the one I'm an expert in. I'm not sure if that reads like I meant it to.
So what would happen if a college football team tried to kick off the season with at least 86 scholarship players? Could they do it? Would the NCAA simply look the other way? No and no. That's because having 86 scholarship players at that time would be over-signing. It also would be the only thing that would constitute over-signing. By rule, definition, or by law, I'm not aware of a single case where Alabama has over-signed.
