Spoke to his brother last week and the Cubs still held his rights--the team that drafts you, reguardless of if you stay in school or not, has your rights for an entire year.... Word last week was that the Cubies were hoping to reach an agreement with Matt on LAST YEAR'S selection--but pay him "higher round money" if Matt would agree to play for the Cubs. Now, I haven't spoken to Matt's brother since then (just moved into our new house), but I plan on calling him at some point.
dont think so he said 1 year... meaning the draft makes the 1 year mark complete I think he was saying that the Cubs would try to ink him before the draft, so he wouldn't go through the whole draft process
Correct. After a player is drafted, the team holds the rights to that player until the next draft. A player may chose to not sign, return to school for a year and then if he has raised his value, he can be signed for the money he expected to make after being drafted. This process is reffered to as "draft and follow". So at this point the Cubs can still re-sign Liuzza and the Dodgers can re-sign Hocheaver. As soon as they are drafted again, those teams lose their rights to the players.
i think they get the rights like up to 15 days before the draft. then its done. yes dodgers have nothing to do with him anymore. they did draft don mattinglys son though. oh and when a player sits out after they drafted him once, the other team cannot even draft him the following year. i think its bs. i think they should be able to take him again and piss him off. why would you go to KC and not LA. idiot.
Wow, I didn't even realize the draft started yesterday. Then yeah, the Dodgers don't have rights to Hocheaver anymore, and as soon as Liuzza gets drafted, the Cubs wont have rights to him.
shoulda gone to the cubs... too hard to pass up that tradition the cubs stink NOW, but the Blue Jays have no chance If ever they get better than they are now, the Yanks and Sox will just buy the whole AL West and put them back in 3rd place
