Wasn't Zibikowsky (sp?), that safety on the Irish that the media slobbered over, doing some pro stuff. I could swear he had a freakin boxing bout in Madison Square Garden... I thought getting payed for "athletics" made you ineligible in college too, guess if its not the same sport?

You are allowed to compete professionally being that a) you aren't playing collegiately in the same sport and b) you don't accept endorsement money as that would make you ineligible. The endorsement money is what caused that wide receiver/skier for colorado to be ineligible to play football as he was getting endorsement deals for ski equipment and the ncaa ruled him ineligible.

OK...gotta get this straight. CJ can get drafted...play minor league ball...and still play football at LSU???? I hope this is true cause it would change alot about the way I feel about us landing CJ....it just somehow doesn't sound right.

Highly doubt Chad Jones, if drafted in top 2 rounds, would play football at LSU. Depending on where he is drafted and where he gets stuck... he would likely be unable to attend classes regulary, that is unless he was sent to a minor league team somewhere around B.R.

Also, they would have injury concerns with him playing football, especially the signing bonus he will get being a 1/2 rounder. I believe that signing bonus would make for an NCAA violation.

Chad Jones will not play any sport at LSU if he is drafted in the top 2 rounds. No ifs, ands, or buts.

Not positive, but I think Jamie Howard signed a pro baseball contract while playing football at LSU. He only played baseball during the summer months.

It is ok to sign a pro contract in one sport and be eligible to play another college sport. There are some restrictions like not accepting any endorsement money. Also, you can't receive an athletic scholarship.

It's rare, but it can happen.

Jamie Howard played minor league baseball his first 3 years (during the summer) while he was quarterback for LSU.
