LSU men’s and women’s track teams are both ranked #1 in the nation. 4 of the men have world leading marks. This from Dandy Don’s morning report. In track and field news, JuVaughn Harrison won the high jump title with one of the most impressive performances in collegiate history, and freshman Emma Robbins made history as she claimed the women’s hammer throw title to highlight the second day of the SEC Outdoor Championships. Harrison’s jump of 7’ 8.75” (2.36 meters) makes him the second-best collegiate performer of all time, ups his previous school record, gets him an Olympic standard, and moves him into the 2021 world lead. As for Robbins, she became LSU’s first female winner in program history in the hammer throw at the SEC Championships with her career-best toss of 220’ 4” (67.17 meters). The LSU men are currently in fourth place with 38 points, and the women are in sixth with 26 points. Both have ample opportunities to steal the show today with a combined 40 scoring chances.
LSU had some amazing performances yesterday at the SEC track meet. While they didn’t win (conference meets tend to go to teams with high numbers of distance runners) they will be favored in the nationals because of the quality of the team. Terrance Laird won the Commissioner’s Trophy winning the 100 m, 200 m and anchoring the 400 m relay in spectacular fashion. https://lsusports.net/news/2021/5/16/track-field-terrance-laird-awarded-commissioners-trophy.aspx
More on the #1 ranked men’s and women’s track teams. They added to the number of NCAA and world #1 times, heights, distances last week at the SEC championship. It’s nice to see a team’s that’s pushing to be the best. https://lsusports.net/news/2021/5/17/track-field-ustfccca-rankings-may-17-2021.aspx
This might be the 1st ever Track thread during my time here that I have seen lol. Our our 3 major sports at LSU in such disrepair that our fans are looking to Track? Well shit, lets get a gymnastics thread going!
I remember when track meets had the stands at LSU full and Alex Box was empty. Track was the spring sport before Bertman.
Some of those "chicks" in the field events like hammer throw, shot put and discus look like they could play nose tackle on the football team!
