Yeah, but I do agree with the fact that rankings do hold a higher value than we give it in terms of recruiting. Being ranked higher does give you more national recognition for your program, but it is pretty much useless during the season.
I know... "I am serious...and don't call me Shirley" (Leslie Neilson, The Naked Gun, 1988) I'm not a "ma'am"--but I don't think that was your purpose for quoting it. :thumb: No, I know it's just the facts, and naturally everyone wants to be ranked as high as possible, but in theory, there's very little difference in being seeded 4-7 or 8 except for when you eventually have to play the higher seeds (i.e. you play the "Big dogs" earlier as oppossed to not having to play them until the Sweet 16, Elite 8 or Final 4).
We are projected as a 2 or 3 seed... 2 times 4 is 8 3 times 4 is 12... so apparently someone thinks we are a top 8-12 team... the polls mean nothing
NCAA tournament seedings are widely known to be more based off of RPI, and our RPI is in top 12. We win against Ole Miss, we probably move up in the polls, as polls gravitate towards RPI. Writers make up polls, coaches make up polls. Polls get us written about. Polls get us on ESPN. Polls get us respect. Polls mean something. Sorry if I disagree.
At the very least being in the top 25 means your game will get top 25 coverage on national sports shows.
Yep, it means we have voters who don't watch much basketball and they only look at final scores and records! Polls give us some national exposure, which is good, but it is mostly for the fans to enjoy and discuss. Most knowledgeable basketball experts stopped referring to the polls a few years ago. I think we'll hear less talk about polls in the future since the NCAA now puts out their weekly rpi ranking.
