My bad: I forgot ND had to stay as a top 6 BCS team! Good for the voters in smaking them for the showing against Stanford.

No reason whatsoever for an idle ND to jump an idle Ohio St in the final poll. It's lights out for the Irish...I think.

All Notre Dame needs is at least 9 wins and a top 12 BCS ranking for *consideration* for a BCS bowl.

But the BCS does not take the top two non-automatically qualified. If the BCS rules say otherwise, I've not found that clause. They take the two that qualify that they would like to have. So unless Ohio State and Oregon get into the BCS Top 4, the Fiesta Bowl and Orange Bowl have the right to say no to them. They could pick Auburn and Notre Dame if they like.

It will most likely be Ohio State and Notre Dame getting in, but it has nothing to do with voters pulling Notre Dame up. Notre Dame has already done everything it needs to do to get in.

That's the one scenario that could really help LSU, but first off, I don't think the voters would move USC or Texas below LSU without also moving them below Penn State. Not to mention, I'm not convinced that LSU will even pull back ahead of Penn State if they beat Georgia.

However, if it did happen, and in the human polls it read LSU #1, USC #2, Texas #3, Penn State #4, Penn State could still be ahead of us. Remember that now in the BCS how many human poll points you have are what matters, The ranking number is rather meaningless. If LSU's in first, but is only ahead of USC by say 20 points, Texas by 40, and Penn State by 70, Penn State would still be close enough in the humans to have the computer score pull them ahead of us.

What needs to happen is for LSU to distance themselves from Penn State as much as possible in POINTS in the human polls. If Texas or USC got lodged between LSU and Penn State in the polls, it would help. I just don't see it happening. The interesting thing about that scenario is that LSU could be the one sitting at No. 1 in the human polls, but left out of the National Title game... interesting twist of fate.

You are correct. This may be another example of my hummingbird mouth getting ahead of my mockingbird ass. Now that ND has qualified the Fiesta can take them over Oregon if they desire. I should have said that, but I didn't.
However, it leaves Oregon with a legitimate complaint... and I'm sure the BCS has a fully staffed Complaint Department.

But the question really is will that Complaint Department really care? Aren't the bowls really about money? Slection ND would certainly bring a lot of money which is why they get such heavy consideration? Could be wrong here and way off base but....this is a business bottom line.

Even if USC and/or UT lose I dont think LSU can or will jump either of them. BUT I would love to see them lose just for the simple fact that it would make everyone see that the BCS DOES NOT WORK, and only looks like it works when the system is lucky enough to have two undeafted.

as long as notre dame is in the top 12 of the bcs they are bcs bowl eligible... top 6 means an automatic bid...
