Les Miles has a desire to prove to people he can still coach at a high level. And I think he can get good coaches to help him. It will take him some time at Kansas if he goes there but he will have them competitive again. I believe that and the expectations wont be as demanding as LSU. To start they will just want to get back being competitive.

Right.. Since it's a basketball school, there's no pressure to win immediately. Hell, there's probably no pressure to win at all, so he'll be able to build the team he wants over time.

Short memory, eh? Are you forgetting how Miles used his relationship with Jeff Long to get a raise when the UArk job was open?

Is that spelled out in his contract with LSU? I've wondered how it was written, but haven't taken the time to look it up yet. Or, is this you and a little cursory math?

I’m not sure of the dollar amounts, but if he gets a new gig making equal to what we’re paying we won’t owe him anything more. So Miles didn’t have much incentive to look for work. This gives him a nice lump sum and if he finds work he’ll probably come out ahead. It’s kind of a bet on himself that he’ll get something soon.

I take it as Alleva doesn’t think Miles is getting KU or anything too soon because then why not wait. Of course, it is good to get that money off the books regardless. Good compromise for both parties (unless Miles has a job in the bag, then Alleva just lost us $1.5M).

I don't subscribe to labeling anyone as money-grubbing when they are simply doing what everyone else does in a free market system. I will say that Saban's ego dwarfs most and that is why you will be paying him more and more, contract or no. Take comfort in the fact that you are getting a good ROI ...for now.

What do you mean, for now? His impact wont be diminished when he's no longer at UA.

So your saying Bama will never see hard times again. wow When Saban leaves I think you might be surprised. Saban as much as I dislike him is one of the best coaches ever in college football. Those don't come around all the time.

Im sure you will still be good but there will be a drop off.

he gets total buyout amount minus whatever money he makes at any new gig.

he had about $6.5 left on his buyout. so any contract he signs worth that or more relieves LSU from the buyout completely.

Alleva is a fucking idiot, so don’t be shocked to find out Les has a deal worked out for at least $6.5 total.
Meaning LSU was completely off the hook, but Joe ponies up an extra $1.5.
