even though we never play them we could declare Clemson our rivals....

    1) they think they are the Tigers
    2) they stole the Death Valley idea from us
    3) Tommy Bowden is a tool
    4) they stole the H-style goal posts from tiger stadium too :cuss:

I think that Tennessee could be everyones rivalry since thier coach snitched on Alabama, I'm not taking up for Bama but something I read about how that whole thing
went down wasn't right last fall or whenever the story broke.

Florida will always be our Rivalry to me since they were the best for along time, they also have the best players right now outside of LSU if you ask me.

Don't forget Florida is also the team that hurt our starting qb 2 years ago.
We beat them at the Swamp but they cost us the rest of the season that year.
I'm hoping we can give them a "special gift" this year fair and square, avenge the loss
last year and beat the tar out of them.

Some, including myself, may argue that they(Florida) have better players than LSU.

LSU's true rival problem can be summed up in one word: Tulane. The fact is Ole Miss and Miss. State are each other's main rival, Florida has FSU and Miamia. Alabama has Auburn and vice versa, Tenn. has Vandy. A true rival has to feel they have a rivalry with each other. Sure, LSU hates Ole Miss, but Ole Miss has a greater hatred for Miss. State and vice versa.

Arkansas has the potential to become LSU's true rival--neighborhing states, play every year in FB and 2x in hoops, but there isn't much history.

Now, if Tulane hadn't left the SEC or at the least have a decent football program they would be LSU's true rival. You have history, instate rivalry, and a mutual dislike. That's why I don't really wish to see Tulane become as bad as they have become. I would say in Baseball they are LSU's rival, and they used to be in football. That' s the one thing LSU misses--a true rival with history and consistent mutual dislike.

Nick knows how important true rivals are. At MSU he had two long-standing rivalry games in UM and ND. UM says OSU is their number one rival, but in every other sport it is MSU and UM. In basketball, hockey and every other sport they are true rivals. I wish he would give the go-ahead for home and home with Tulane, but I know it's not practical since they are now regulated to playing some home games in a high school stadium. There's nothing better than blowing out Tulane in FB. They actually think that they are the better school than LSU, when in fact in research dollars and graduate programs LSU blows them away.

I think LSU should play TU home and home in ever other sport than football and basketball once a year. Maybe if TU ever got their fb program back they would come to be LSU's traditional rival. I think this every other year in tiger stadium should be persured or spliting the game 50/50 in the superdome.

No way no how!!!!! You can't call a game with a cupcake a rivalry and yes Toolame is a cupcake. We do not need to and should not play Tulane every year, killing them once every 4 or 5 years should do.

Auburn on the other hand has developed into a rivalry the last 5 or 6 years and has been pretty heated. We played Gawga for the first time in what seems like 50 years, so you can't really call that a rivalry yet. Plus in the SEC every game except Vandy, Kentucky and Miss St are big games. I hate Tennessee, Florida, Gawga, Ole Siss, the War Chickens(plains variety), Alabama, the Piggies and the War Chickens(Carolina Variety). Too many years AU and Bama's seasons hinge on their one game. How can you go 4-8 but beat Bama and you had a successful season? We play in the SEC we don't need one team to stick out more than the other as the team we HAVE to beat to be successful. Just say no to tulane!!!! :hihi: :hihi: :hihi: :hihi: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

I agree with Trumpet - they're all rivals!

I remember the Tiger rivalries from back in the McClendon days. Alabama was EVERYONE'S rival, since it was very difficult to beat The Bear. McClendon was the only one of Bryant's students to beat him more than once, but it was probably LSU's failure to regularly beat Alabama that cost McClendon his job.

Ole Miss was always (and will always be) GO TO HELL, OLE MISS! On top of that, Ole Miss (and Archie Who) kept us out of the Cotton Bowl when we were a shoo-in to play Texas. We were a 9-1 team and we didn't go to a bowl game.

Kentucky was always a rival, since it was McClendon's old school. Since then, WE are giants Ky wants to kill. So we have the target on us, so we have to be very careful with Ky.

Miss. State come after us everytime since we're the closest they've got besides Ole Miss and we've beaten up on them for years. So we have to watch out big time.

Florida still wants to pay us back for what we (rarely) did to them in the Spurrier era, and we want to get them back for the usual trouncing.

Georgia still resents our beating them last year, and will for years. They thought they should have won in Tiger Stadium, and that damned kicker that interfered with our band in the SEC game speaks for it all.

Tennessee used to run over us, but we humiliated them in the SEC game several years ago. Etc., etc.

I could go on and on. The bottom line is - ALL SEC teams are out to get us, and we them, for historic reasons, often long and serious, sometimes short and contentious, reasons. Even Vandy (Dinardo's school that he skipped out on) has reasons to go after us, and since we're No. 1, we're everyone's championship game.

This millenium is the era of LSU against the SEC, every game, every week (and actually, probably almost every sport).

So we don't have to worry about who our "rivals" are - the SEC en globo is our rival.

    And so it goes . . . .

I agree with Ralph; it's gotta be either Tulane or Arkansas.

Our problem is we've got too many SECONDARY rivalries, but no PRIMARY rivalry. Reason being, every team we call a rival, no matter how much history and bad blood develops between us and them, will always have one other school they hate worse than us and have more history and bad blood with than us.

Georgia has Georgia Tech, then Florida. And we don't play Georgia every year.
Auburn has Alabama and vice versa.
Ole Miss has Miss. State and vice versa.
Florida has Florida State, Georgia, Miami, and even Tennessee ahead of us in the "hated rivals" line.

Arkansas and LSU make sense as a rivalry geographically, and also due to the fact that we both have no serious in-state rivalry at this time. It's just gonna take time and a few epic battles for the SEC West Title between us and them to make it a blood feud. We already have a traditional date (Friday after Thanksgiving @ 1PM) and we already have a trophy (The Boot).

But I think we're gettin' there. C'mon, how did most of you guys feel after the 2002 game? Didn't you just want to tear your hair out and scream? Didn't you have a hard time living with anything related to Arkansas, Razorbacks, pork, or the color red after that game? Doesn't Houston Nutt and the blatant disregard he shows for the true meaning of student-athlete and even basic morality (ie. team full of thugs) make you want to hurl? I feel that way.

Of course, even though some "border wars" have become primary rivalries (Michigan-Ohio State and Nebraska-Colorado) there is no rivalry like in-state rivalry. So I too, favor a return to tradition and playing Tulane, home-n-home, every year. It's probably gonna happen, especially if we go to 12 game schedules every season (and that's a definite possibility). We should also explore reconnecting with Texas A&M if at all possible.
