Nice. I agree with this, but I think we can all agree that it doesn't really matter at this point. Someone out here on the left coast told me today that we just might be good enough to take on OU now. I had to LMAO at that one. It really was rather funny.
SoS was removed from the BCS Rankings themselves. There are some of the computer polls that factor SoS into play however but they're using a composite of 6 different computer polls to equal 33% of the BCS ranking.
Two-thirds of the BCS formula is taken from two polls: The Harris Interactive College Football Poll and the USA Today Coaches’ Poll. The other 1/3 is from six six computer polls, managed by people, newspapers and the BCS itself. They are: Anderson & Hester, Richard Billingsley, Colley Matrix, Kenneth Massey, Jeff Sagarin’s USA Today and Peter Wolfe.
Of the 6 polls that make up the computer poll, they don't all assign weights the same. Sagarin seems to favor undefeated and single-loss teams more than some of the other ranking systems. Billingsley’s system is based on “point accumulation”, meaning that teams only are credited for winning/losing when the game occurs, only receiving/losing points in the rankings following that weekend. He does have an SOS factor but places a supreme premium on staying undefeated. Massey’s ratings includes home field advantage but also have an SOS factor. Colley relies heavily on strength of schedule to rank his teams. However, the Matrix disregards home-field advantage in any matchup. Peter Wolfe’s Rankings At its most basic, is that there is a certain likelihood of one team beating another. Although his formula is secret, he utilizes this idea through a “maximum likelihood estimate” of a victory by a given team. Wolfe then rates teams against their likelihood estimate, basically actual outcome vs probability of that outcome occurring. Anderson & Hester take home and away results into account when calculating strength of schedule. Unfortunately much like the rest of the BCS computers, Anderson and Hester do not publish their computer rankings, and therefore its hard to know the entire process Well, yeah! Wins/loses are based on performance, no? :yelwink2: Margin of victory was taken out. As you see above, the SOS varies in each of the 6 polls that make up the puter.
I saw in the AP poll that Boise St had one first-place vote. Srsly?!?! WHO in their right freckin mind would put BSU #1 when OU, 'Bama and LSU are ALL far, FAR superior....ALL played far superior competition... That person should have to explain himself and I'm an advocate of if your ballot SEVERLY differs from everyone else, you should have it revoked.
To be somewhat fair because we could say this about every poll but the computer rankings are very skewed until the range of data reaches the conclusion of the season.
