Here is my post from the recruiting forum about 2-3 months ago: ------------------------------------------------- FYI, LSU projects out to 3166 points based on adding: Randle Loston Benton (and counting as a top 20 player and top 2-5 at his position based on 2007 rankings) Debose Mingo Myles Telfort In addition, projecting Ford as a top 20 player. The previous record is USC in 2006 with 3018 points. Statistically, LSU's 2009 class would be the best ever, since the advent of rankings and scoring systems by rivals. Note: USC projects to over 3200 points if they can get 2 more 5 star commits (out of Jenkins, Kennard, Te'o) ----------------------------------------------- I projected Ford to 5 star, but not Jackson. So you can interchange those. I projected counting Benton as 5 star, so we have a shot at that or we land Campbell, same thing. I did not include Montgomery but I had Telfort. Pretty much a wash. My USC info was before they lost those 2 high recruits (one was 5 star and the other a 4 star). So they will not eclipse the 3000 point mark it seems. So it does very well appear that we will SHATTER the all time record. SHATTER. I will come up with a projection based on different scenarios so we can see how much "play" we have (e.g, Kelly instead of Randle). Stay tuned.
Well, we should probably wait & see who we actually end up with... However, if a few things fall our way I can see this being the best recruiting class in the modern era of recruiting rankings.
If we miss out, it will be like Drew Brees this year with the passing record, oh so damn close. I will say this, 2-3 months ago I would have said a lot of things have to go our way. Now I am of the mindset a lot of things have to go against us to prevent us from breaking the record.
If we are going on stars, recruiting points and hype, then I guess this would be it. But if we are going on production, we'll have to wait. I still think Miami's from a few years back (the one where nearly the whole team went to the NFL) will be hard to beat, but maybe they weren't all in the same class. Tony Mandarich was considered the greatest offensive line prospect ever coming out of college and into the NFL, and look how he turned out. Similar could be said for Brock Berlin. I don't want to count our chickens... well, you know.
Well, if this year's class ain't the best recruiting class in college football history, then maybe next year or the following year will be. With CLM and Coach O burning the recruiting candle at both ends, the sky's the limit.:tigereye:
