in fact, if i was LSU, is it even an option to try to get a new coach in here and retain butch as an asst.??? that would be the best of all worlds. i mean no offense to coach pierre, but are the offers gonna flood in at the end of the season for him?? if they don't, i would almost assert to any candidate for the job that it would greatly benefit them to employ butch on their staff.
Everything in life is about timing. The timing is not right to hire the assistant coach of the coach LSU just fired. IMO, Butch has done a fine job and may do a fine job in the future. He should definitely be considered but he should definitely NOT get hired. You want drum up excitement, fan support amongst the fan base by hiring Butch? Ain't gonna happen. And for someone to ask what has Floyd done and can't understand why LSU would want to hire Floyd over Butch is just ridiculous. Whomever asks that question has to be related to Butch. Floyd's won at every college he's ever been. He was in an unwinnable situation with the Bulls but he was still the head coach of the Chicago Bulls. He took a completely absurd situation with the Hornets and took that disfunctional squad to the playoffs. But yet someone asks why anyone would look at Floyd over Butch? The guy won at Iowa State......the guy won at UNO......schools with no history of winning basketball games. He lives in the shadow of UCLA and takes USC (with this year) to 2 straight NCAA tourneys. I have always said Floyd is the first person to go and talk to. The guy makes $850k in L.A. Offer him $2 mil, if he says no then go get Anthony Grant and be done with it. If Grant wants to go somewhere else instead, then go drop $1.5 mil on Scott Drew from Baylor. Coaching search complete.
i think floyd would do well, but can he take a team deep? eustachy took Iowa St farther than floyd did.
No idea how deep he can take a team in the tourney. I know he can recruit and if he hopes to stay at LSU for the long haul and Skip can get him, I don't see ANY reason to no go get the guy. I can see several reasons why Floyd wouldn't want the LSU job (1. Following his friend Brady, 2. has NO friggin' idea who his boss will be even though Skip announced like 2 years ago he was leaving, 3. He's got a good situation going at USC in a fertile recruiting ground) but no reason LSU wouldn't want him.
