I completely agree. One doesn't explain the other. When you consider Ole Miss rated as #1 in the league with allowing teams in the RZ 43 times to 19 on LSU...the stat is the best definition of an enigma. That was the main reason for the caveat at the beginning of the post... OM has had a few fumbles, Int's, down conversions to their credit...but, all in all, it was Corso pulling a stat out of his...we'll leave it at that.
You may be right, but Auburn drove the length of the field to score a go-ahead td with under 3 minutes remaining. I was pretty disappointed our defense couldn't get the stop.
All I want for Christmas is more sacks! BTW, Did anybody notice penalties yardage was much improved, 5-35. Mucho better, Thank You! Later, Fur
Yes, but you have to factor in the extra motivation in beating a very highly ranked LSU team. Tulane played out of its mind in the 1st half, you will not see a better effort from them the rest of the year. From the Florida fans I've talked to, they all agree that the LSU-Florida game was basically the national championship game in terms of intensity, effort, and how even the teams were. UK played a great game and got one of the best wins of their school history. And Auburn was playing for a shot at the SEC championship. We are getting everyone's best shot and with injuries and our WR's getting dropsies we are lucky to still be #3. Having said that, I still think keeping track of stats during the season is pointless. If you want to gauge how great a defense is you have to factor in the entire season. Things happen, as evidenced the past 3 weeks.
Great, the defense has not been. You can chop the numbers any way you want, they are bending too often. This talk about defenses reminds me of half-time in 2003. As his sooners were losing in the national championship game, the interviewer asked Stoops how his Sooners were handling the #1 rated defense...his response was a debate on whose defense was number one, since the sooner defense was the number one scoring defense...simply he looked stupid. Lets face it, we beat AU, but we SHOULD have stopped their last drive. The Saban years were good for one thing....a fearsome defense. A defense that would not only stop you, but punish you for trying. Blitz packages that would stun the best chess player, turnovers galore, and punishing blows and strength. We need to get back to that. Everytime Cox was pressured, he simply fell apart. Unless we are holding something back for the second half of the season, we need to take these next two weeks and prepare for a hell of a game in Alabama
That blitz package he used at the end of the Capital One Bowl was jim-dandy! :thumb: We need to figure out a way to generate more pressure from our front four, that's where we're hurting, and not rely on complex blitz schemes leaving our guys on islands.
