I had four WVU fans sitting next to me last year. They were quite arrogant to start the game and kept saying how much better the atmosphere was in Morgantown. Once the LSU crowd got started they soon realized 90K is greater than 60K. They also seemed to have a complex about the SEC. (envy) By the end of the day they had learned a few things but promised to destroy us next year. I didn't hate WVU but I was not impressed by their actions last night. It's obvious their coach hasn't "been there" before as he was melting down on the sideline. Their QB was awesome! He got a LOT of help due to the O-Line holding. I wasn't happy about the slaps to the head. The main turnoff for me was the classless act of booing. Maybe WVU fans got caught up too much with the NYG's act last week but they embarrassed the university with the classless act. I don't hate WVU but stop pretending you can hang with the SEC because you can't. I personally don't believe the Big East should get an automatic BCS bid. GREAT basketball conference! Football...not so much.
Seems like there was some bad blood from last year. But from what I heard it was a good time between the WVU and LSU fans last night. Pretty similar fan bases and I think the worst of the hostility was on the field (trashtalking). Wouldn't mind playing WVU again in a home-and-home, the atmosphere was electric there.
If wvu is accepted to the sec( hope not) they will quickly become one of our most hated and heated rivalry.
Dave from WV;1231387 I am a huge WVU fan and was on your site all week last week just to get your views on last night's game. After reading your pregame comments and postgame comments.. I have this question.. Was or is there anything the WVU team, WVU coach, WVU fans, or the people of West Virginia could or can do for your respect???? No. :thumb:
Rw, you said it ALL in this post--and with all the respect that was due! Looking down with those aerial shots on WVU's stadium with all those gold-bedecked fans, it looked a lot like Death Valley and WVU left it all on the field. Their players should be proud, and some of their fan base ashamed--as some in DV's student section in BR as well, truth be told. But, again, your post should be required reading for any visiting poster! Come to talk CFB, come with thick skin, a touch of humor & irony, and leave with your pride intact. Talk chit and you're Mike's Dinner!
I guess I'm having a difficult time understanding your level of expectation. I don't frequent other boards but I decided to take a look at a WV board and see what kind of respect your fans were showing LSU.....you should have taken a look at your own boards before posting.
It's amazing how few people realize how much of the Katrina funding never even crossed state lines into Louisiana and Mississippi. I bet he also doesn't mind how much funding we lose from being screwed for oil royalties. I guess you resort to these types of t-shirts when you haven't nothing to show on the football field. I saw one sign which showed the outline of WV > LA. I've been to WV and had a good time but don't think they're going to be ">" than many states. Funny how they talk about us when their most famous resident was Democrat Senator Robert Byrd. (Mr. KKK)
Nice way to ask the question, so props to you. I only speak for myself, but I have tremendous respect for your program and have no problems with your state. Like La., WV does a lot with it's talent. Typically, you guys are warm and hospitable, but not always. Also, your program is tough and doesn't get enough national respect, and we understand this having suffered the same fate pre-2003. In 2007, I thought y'all were going to the BCSNCG, but then the big loss to Pitt. Of course, I watched that game. I know that one game had to be one of the most painful losses ever for your program. I did see some comments last night from our brothers here who had friends in Morgantown who were getting some harsh treatment. You might want to read the thread called "Starkville Hospitality" if you haven't already done so. I think we all expect some razzing and good-natured ribbing when we are at a game, especially on the road. Personally, I think it would be helpful for fans to be knowledgeable not only of their team but also their opponent - before the game starts. From what I could tell, a lot of folks at WVU thought they were going to steamroll us up there. I appreciate the passion, but there wasn't much to back that up. Some here thought we would steamroll you guys, but most expected a closer game - myself included. Every fan base has it's bad apples and we are not excepted from that. At any rate, I said on here last night that we probably just beat the Big East champ. I fully expect you guys to go on to win your Conference. Good luck the rest of the way, and please come on to Baton Rouge for some good food, drinks, and fun!
