Conclusion: Nobody's interested enough in Iowa's coaches to hire them away.

    Good.

Fry and Ferentz (combined)...ZERO National Championships in 25 years.

And before you answer with what you will inevitably answer, just remember...ONE is still more than zero.

You should be very proud of your championships.

We are strictly "wannabes" in that department.

Here's a list of Alabama's head football coaches since '58.
    Paul Bryant 1958-1982
    Ray Perkins 1983-1986
    Bill Curry 1987-1989
    Gene Stallings 1990-1996
    Mike Dubose 1997-2000
    Dennis Franchione 2001-2002
    Mike Price 2003
    Mike Shula 2003-?

You do the math and draw your own conclusions.
    Exactly...

My guess is we'll both be ranked in the top 6 or 7 next year, so you never know!! ....btw, be sure to watch the Army All-American high school game in Jan.... looks like four of the top ten lineman in the country will be donning Hawkeye helmets at half-time.

Now I know you guys are use to great recruiting classes, but this is new for us... and it's kind of exciting... we already have Jake Christensen, QB, who will start for the East team... pretty cool for us Hawks.

Hawker, I looked at your recruits on the scout board and it is impressive.

Your's has been very impressive for a few years now.... if our "silent verbals" come through (we all know how that goes), we'll have our first top ten class.

Question: ESPN keeps taliking about "elite" teams...as opposed ot traditional powers, etc. What makes an ELITE team? Who are they? (another area where the Hawks struggle)

One of the Iowa posters said elite teams are those teams that the 5 star recruits put on their list for show. Is this as good a definition as any?

Jerry Stovall.......4 years Got the job because of the Bo Rein tragedy. Otherwise, probably never would have been LSU head football coach. Good recruiter, lousy coach, so he had to go.

Bill Arnsparger....3 years Great coach. May have won a MNC or two at LSU had he not left to be AD at Florida.

Mike Archer.........4 years Nice guy, but a lousy coach. Was not ready for the job, but Arnsparger somehow convinced the LSU administration that he was. Had one good season by not messing up Arnsparger's system and players. As soon as he was on his own, he floundered. So, he had to go.

Curley Hallman....4 years Worst coach in history! So, he had to go.

Gerry DiNardo......4 years Really nice guy. I don't think anyone ever called him a prick. Came in and said all the right things and had decent success (bringing back the magic) initially. But, anyone would have seemed like the Bear, Vince Lomabardi, and Knute Rockne all rolled into one, compared with Hudson "Curley!" But then, he lost control of the program, so he had to go.

Nick Saban...........5 years Best football coach LSU has ever had. Not the most personable person, but was a great recruiter and coach. He was too good, though. And, therefore, he was lured by a bigger stage and a bigger challenge.

Four lousy coaches, and two very good coaches. The next one will fail and be gone after four years or will have great success and, possibly be gone after four years... I'm hoping for the latter, even if we do lose him to a bigger stage again.
