LSU sweeps Houston today 11-5 and 8-1 to take 2 out of 3.

Pretty good weekend for the pitching staff, only giving up 5 earned runs in 3 games. Mestepey was his usual self and should have won Friday night if not for an error that gave up 2 runs, as well as no offense. Dirks looked better today and Smith was outstanding. Meier looked awesome in relief today.

We need to get Gill back at SS and we need to find a 3B to shore up the left side of the infield.

P.S. Tulane took 2 out 3 from Pepperdine ... we'll see if this shakes up the poll at the top.

LSU proved yet again that they cannot beat the other team's best pitcher, as they couldn't all of last season. This comes back to bite you in the CWS, where you see every team's best stuff.

Mestepey gives up 2 unearned runs, ergo, our season is a failure? :dis:

There is some merit to what Andrew is saying. We've lost a lot of 1st game of the series over the last 2 years, especially in SEC play. Smoke has gone 0-4 in the CWS. The common denominator here is facing top notch pitching.

Not sure of the reasons why. We have the talent. It's an issue that Smoke needs to solve.

I don't want to hear it from someone who has 32 posts and joined three months ago.

    No.

This has nothing to do with our pitching. It has everything to do with our TEAM's continued inability to beat the other team's best pitcher. I blame coaching.

How many series last year did we lose the first one only to win the next two? What was our CWS record?

I love how everyone's Ace in the Hole here is post numbers.

Skip Bertman has never posted here, but I'm quite sure he knows more than you do!

As far as the best pitcher thing, I actually agree!

But as for as Houston goes, we just couldn't get the big hit to put us over the top... We flirted often.

Good post, the number of post someone has means nothing.

So the fact that we have had trouble beating the other team's best pitcher means it's the coaches fault? Seems to be that if we had trouble beating their worst pitcher then maybe we could lay some blame somewhere. Good pitchers, when on, beat good hitters, it's always been that way and will continue to be so forever. Last year our pitching, especially in the Friday spot, wasn't up to the task of mathcing other teams number one. This year we will be. Lane was brilliant, the error and his second walk of the year came back to haunt him in a a great pitcher's duel.
