And by the way...what "good" OOC team has beaten us lately...other than VT in '02...or whenever that was? I know about the 90's...but please. We have played good OOC teams in bowl games...and have won most of them lately...cept when Saban was here.:hihi: UM, ND, Illinois, GT, Clemson, Oklahoma. To me, that's when you should play your good OOC teams. I hate seeing bowl games with members of the same conference going at it...although I wish we could've played UF one more time last season!o:
i am of the philosphy that we should play (out of 4 ooc games) one top 10 or big name program (i.e. va tech, USC, texas, ohio st, etc ) one cream puff opener (insert mid tenn st, ULL, etc.) one mid major team (CUSA, MTN west ie colorado st, BYU, USM, etc) one mid range top possible top 25 BCS conf school (texas tech, georgia tech, ariz st, rutgers, etc.) of course if LSU is unwilling to travel then a top 25 team could be out of the question and LSU would probably have to try to get one timers for mid range opponents like oregon st a few years ago.
Which games are you talking about when you say our track record with good OOC teams of late is not that great? We hardly lose at all anymore, so I'm sort of confused with that. Edit: I just read Fishhead's post. So, "What he said."
This is one of the biggest issues, schools like TTU will not visit if they cannot get a return game. TTU canceled an AU trip because of no return trip. But really, why should LSU come to Lubbock and have a 50,000 crowd? LSU can make a ton more money playing at home, and the same is true of potential big name opponents. The primary people who are willing to travel are the have nots. The number of "good" opponents is limited, and they will not have more than 1 big game available each year...barring historic rivals like USC\ND.
