I think the health and effectiveness of the running backs will be more important than the quarterback situation. If LSU can establish a running game, it will take pressure off Flynn.
No kidding, huh? I have always stuck behind JR (because I felt important to FINALLY have a true stater and not platoon) and since we kept on winning--dispite some near misses and nail biters, I was gaining confidence in him. When he went down to injury in the SECCG and Flynn came in, my first response was, "ok...he can do it--tons of people have been real high on Flynn's ability to start." ....but that quickly deminished thanks to his performance shortly afterwards. HOWEVER, the consolation that I have is just thinking back to last year's Cap One bowl week, where it was Flynn that got the nod off the bench because he had "prepared himself better than anyone else did"..... I see the disappointing performance for Flynn against UGA as a wake-up call and motivation for the bowl game once again. Not saying Flynn will be ALL-WORLD out there, but I think he has it in him to play within himself, not force things--make the right decisions. He does that, and we more than just have a chance.
That's what really worries me because we really haven't established a running game like we have been doing the past few seasons.
It should be a great game... it is certainly on my favorites list. I will be VERY surprised if Miami doesn't move to shut down the running game and try to put the game in Flynn's hands. Why wouldn't they? If Flynn steps up and puts up a win for the Tigers, this board will be HOPPIN' with speculation about RP, JR and MF for 2006!
I recently read that Miami has won 7 of their last 8 bowl games. That's a pretty impressive streak. That being said, I'm starting to feel a little more comfortable about LSU's team & game plan. We may not win it, but it will be a very good game.
Canes open as 7 pt favorites with a total of 41'. i figured 6 1/2 or 7 so sounds right on. if anyone doubts the value of russell outside of LSU, this game would be pretty much a pick 'em with jr at qb. just imagine if he was smart.
How hard is it for Miami to prepare for a QB that they have limited tape? I think that works to our advantage. Similar to when Mauck came into the SECCG a few years back. Not sure how to prepare. If I were Les I'd start hinting at news conferences about how "well" JR is responding to treatment. Let them try to work on two QB's. Can't hurt.
