Coming down to the wire again in the SEC. LSU is already assured a berth in the conference tourney. MSU is not. They will have their backs to the wall and come out fighting. We hit for more power and have a better average. Our pitching tops there at every matchup except for relief, they have 5 pretty good relievers. We have two, our starters need to pitch deep into the games. Last 5 SEC series LSU is 11-5, MSU is 6-9
MSU will be lucky to win one game against ya'll, especially if LSU hits the ball like they did against Tennessee. We have enough pitching. What we don't have is hitting. We don't have a true slugger in the bunch. We play pretty much station-to-station baseball. As well, our defense has been erratic at times. Our guys know that if they want to make the tournament, they will have to win at least two from you guys. I really don't see it happening. We did, however, take tow from Bama at home a couple of weeks back. So, I guess you never know, but I look for LSU to win the series and the west. If so, then good luck the rest of the way.
And the dogs have Ron Polk. As long as Polk's in the dugout, you can't ever count State out. Next to Skip, he's done more for SEC baseball than anyone I can think of. Any time you can get away with 2 outta 3 in Starkville, you've accomplished something. Ain't gonna be easy.
The best stat on that list is their Friday night starter ... Johnson 3-6 4.93 .300 BA 9 HR's. No excuse for our offense to get shut down by this guy. We should be able to score enough runs for Mestepey.
I really wish I could go like I used to back in the 80's. The Miss. St fans were alwys really good to us and we always had a great time, even when Will was trying his best to cause controversy and Joey was was up to his shennigans.
Hopefully, I will catch the Sat & Sunday games in 'left-field lounge' with some old friends in Stark-vegas. :tigbas:
not so fast. our catcher has yet to throw out a runner this year. this is due to our pitcher's slow ass deliveries more times than not. Therein lies your hope. LSU takes 2 of 3 which will always be an accomplishment at your smoke-filled park.
The thing that surprised me about MSU is that even though they don't hit for power, they aren't a good average team either. And their stolen bases are about the same as us. I figured they would have been a running team, but they really aren't. I wonder if they do a lot of hit and runs?
