If Brady gets fired, do you think Pokey has a shot at the job? After all, they won't have to worry about her having an "inappropriate relationship" with one of the players. :hihi:
Ok, saw this news tonight, and obviously I'm bummed. Not b/c I didn't think it was a possibility that we'd be snubbed but because it's unfortunate that our young team won't get some more playing time. In some sense, I feel a little annoyed b/c you feel like a team that has beat Texas A&M, Florida, and Tennessee has a shot, but at the same time, perhaps this is just a season worth forgetting. And, the sting of following up an incredible year with this shot to the gut is exactly what both these players and Brady's coaching staff needed. Before I dwell and ponder the silver linings and keys for next year, I just have to post some of the schools that sit in LSU's fate as well. Often on this board I find that everyone dooms and glooms on the Tigers when they fail, and forget that many other programs (good ones at that) also live the same disappointment. Here are some of the teams that didn't make the Dance, and didn't make the NIT: First, it's important to note that ONLY Arkansas from the SEC West made the dance, so perhaps the lesson learned this year was all of the SEC West coaches were less than spectacular. 'Bama, Ole Miss, and Miss St, get NIT land. 'Bama was like LSU predicted to win the SEC West, and in some circles, Gottfriend and Rick Stansbury not too many years ago were considered Elite 8 coaches. While it doesn't make LSU's plight look that much better, let's just chalk it up to the SEC West wasn't very good as a whole. Syracuse, FL St, Oklahoma State, Michigan and Kansas State all get NIT bids--which includes coaching greats Boeheim and Huggins. Second, here are just some school ans some of the coaches that made neither tournament, like Mr. Brady: Washington (Romar), Missouri (M. Anderson), Iowa (Alford), Wichita St, Oklahoma (Capel), UConn (Calhoun), Tulsa , Wake Forest (Prosser), and George Mason. What's interesting is that within this group there are several schools that did well in the tourney just a year or two ago, a few "hall of fame" coaches, and several "up and coming" coaches that probably Brady Bashers would have advocated hiring when the times were tough. This isn't an excuse for Brady as much as it is just a dose of reality--it is not a foregone conclusion that post-season play is a given every year. The Tigers certainly fell short of their expectations, but then so did a lot of other schools. This heartbreak of a year hopefully will make this squad hungrier next year. :geauxtige :bball: :champs: LSU IS A BASKETBALL SCHOOL. WE'LL BE BACK.
I think the end of the season has grown in importance, so winning high-profile games early doesn't carry as much weight in comparison to how you finish the season, especially with borderline teams. It does seem that parity in college basketball is rapidly spreading.
Well, your turn of events was more of a surprise this year than ours, much more. We knew things were bad when Alford tried out for "So You Think You Can Dance" last year and.... but he side-steps so well... Stevie HairGel needs to move on.... friggen disgusted, I am.
It's nothing but excuses. 10 years later people are still making excuses for our basketball program. This type of up and down program gets football and baseball coaches fired at LSU. Sooner or later, the excuses must stop. Sooner or later, someone needs to decide if we want to have a legitimate basketball program, not something to just fill our time until football season starts. For all the faults of Louisiana, the one thing it has are talented HS athletes in all sports. We can do better. It all starts with a commitment by LSU. That would have to include a new coaching staff. Don't think that'll ever happen under Skip. Hopefully, a new AD next summer will see the possibilities of the basketball program being more than just killing time until football starts.
