What continues to amaze me is that folk see the spread as exclusively being some form of fast strike attack. With incomplete passes the clock stops for a period that it would be running if the play was a rush. That, in itself, gives additional time to rest for the D while leaving more game clock to score. The passing game also is designed to be a ball control offense, it just so happens that much greater pressure is put on backs to make one on one tackles, and when they are missed, big plays result. In a true spread, the RB will still touch the ball numerous times, many more times than any other skilled player. This isn't a bombs away offense, it is much better than that. I have been waiting to see some teams that can match talent on both sides of the ball run this thing. I think you will be very happy with the results.
Yeah if I was a bama fan I would be worried too! Your dbs will have a long afternoon in November! $atan better start teaching the grab and hold or doucet might break Josh reed's record of 295 yards. Who was that against again? Oh yeah those great bama dbs :bncry: I can't wait for the destruction!
<------------ Patiently waiting for the day you can respond to something without trying to turn it into some kind of smack contest.
Re: <------------ Well the wait is over! I do not live in Birmingham anymore, so I havent stayed in touch with some sources. Do you expect Bama to cover LSU receivers next year. If you remember correctly when $aban was at LSU his defense gave up a lot of yards and points his first couple of years without his personnel. I EXPECT a lot of mistakes on defense for bama, because the defense is so complex. Kelly Washington lit up our dbs for 256 yards in 2001, I think LSU will have a similar time next year, because of missed assignments. There ya go, just opinions about how hard it will be to adjust to $aban's defense.:thumb:
A passing type of attack can eat up a lot of clock if managed properly. Just look at what NO did in some of their games. If BP's D is holding OT to 3 and out, just how long are they on the field?? :thumb:  :thumb:  :thumb:  :thumb:  :thumb:  Tigerb8
Re: <------------ And, I've stated the very same thing on this forum countless times. Not only does it take awhile for his D scheme to be implemented, the type of players he looks for aren't the type we've been recruiting for the last few years. You could have done without mentioning Kelly Washington...there's a player I had ZERO respect for...what was his self-proclaimed nickname? FWIW, I think the biggest adjustment is going to be along the DL and LB corps. DL because they've been running an inside-out technique and are switching to and outside-in technique. The LB's because we've been running with 3...and switching to the 3-4 scheme. As to the DB's, playing agressive along the LOS isn't something they haven't had experience with. Neither is the fact they'll be playing a lot of man coverage. Our CB's have been doing that for several years now. Now, I do expect a learning curve with the S positions.
