You're right; I would expect nothing more from the media. However, I hold law enforcement to a different standard. They've displayed an overt bias through this whole ordeal, and I'm pretty appalled by their actions and statements. Of course, I shouldn't be. This is the same group of invalids that allowed Derrick Todd Lee to murder 3 more people because they ignored the one tip that was useful.
Good point. You would think after 30-40 statements you would get a fair idea of the truth. Then again 2am at a bar..... everyone probably saw something different with some liquid in their veins.
Very True, But Id rather be re-watching Oregon & LSU games and discussing how we are going to slow down DT & LMJ
Saw plenty of bar fights in my day but was never, ever interviewed by any member of law enforcement. BRPD must have tremendous resources to allocate this much time to a single altercation. Hopefully, they really aren't interviewing anywhere close to 100 people.
With the way this story has ballooned, I am sure they are making sure they get it right the first time. They should not be concerned with anything but getting it right. LSU's football schedule should be the furthest thing from their minds. I worked for a long time in clubs and saw my share of fights also. From time to time police were called, but not very often. I never really followed up with any of the cases to see if charges were ever filed. The police always treated it as just drunks getting in a fight. It always seemed very routine to them.
If you review the history of this issue on this board you can see that the perception of the event has been continuously evolving. My instinct tells me all facts are not out in the public, and I think the police are still looking to either confirm what they think they know, or discover more facts. If this becomes about why the fight started then there will be ‘new evidence’ involving the character of the participants and the events leading up to the fight. And things like ‘was hate language’ used before and during the fight may come into play. So yea, there may be more ‘evidence’ because what is ‘evidence’ can change with perception of the crime. The longer this hangs out there the more intense it may get. But the legal system can’t be rushed because of football. The outcome of this mess can impact these kids’ lives for a long time. And that is more important.
How can it be that they did not take witness statements at the scene? The Chief said that only the aggrieved party and the four LSU players had been interviewed. So who are all these "witnesses" that channel 9, the Picayune and others reported on Friday? Why are the police a week late when memories aren't as fresh and people have had time to collaborate on stories?
