the beauty of jamarcus is his amazing size with the ability to see over his line and throw passes that most NFL guys can't make. you can't duplicate a specimen like this guy. watching replays of some of his passes he throws 40 yards with ease is just a precursor of things we can expect to see. he's a once in a lifetime type potential. I can hardly wait to watch him develop. then rp awaits soon after. LSU is in an enviable position.
Coaching Experience 1991 Iowa (graduate assistant) 1993 Cardinal Mooney High School (quarterbacks) 1994-96 San Francisco 49ers (defensive backs) 1997-99 New England Patriots (linebackers) 2000-02 Green Bay Packers (linebackers) 2003 Nebraska (defensive coordinator, interim head coach for Alamo Bowl) 2004 Oklahoma (co-defensive coordinator, defensive backs) 2005 LSU (defensive coordinator) Pretty impressive resume considering his short coaching career. Nebraska also had a damn good D in 2003.
Yeah and they also got about a million turnovers. From what I hear, Miles stresses turnovers pretty bigtime. So between the two of them, the opposing teams might actually never get the ball.:hihi:
Alot of people are saying how special teams will be a weakness for this team. I think it will turn out to be one of our strong points. First of all, it got much better towards the end of last season. Second, Miles really stresses it & there's actually a coach dedicated to it, which Saban didn't have. As Contained just mentioned, I expect LOTS of turn overs (going our way, of course). And as another thread pointed out, that is USC's main strength & it has a way of making your offense look even better by virtue of shortening the field. Good god I'm excited about this season.
I hope you are right, but there were not many signs of it in the spring. Special teams were definitely the weakness last year. Our inconsistent quarterbacks got most of the blame. But if not for a missed extra point and a penalty by the extra point defensive squad at Auburn and then a blown coverage by the "prevent" defense in the bowl game, LSU would have finished 11-1 last year. Only Georgia spanked us. The seven missed extra points and the poor kick return game can not be repeated this year if LSU is going to be a national championship contender.
damn, was it 7? thats inexcusable on any level even peewee football. i so wanna see a blocked kick/punt and return for a td by LSU before i die. Les is stressing this and i surely look forward to seeing great improvement. i think it can only get better. good stat on leading the sec in rushing before as i wasnt aware of that. i thought we finished 3rd for some reason. if jamarcus can open it up even more we could run roughshod over most teams once the pass is established.
I pretty much agree. Saban may have done LSU a great service by not tolerating nor rewarding JR lack of study. If JR learned that you have to put in the effort and earn a start, it will not be given to you just because you have talent, he could have set JR up, and LSU, for greater success in the future, than if he started him even if he wasn't earning it. The tactic may have cost LSU a game or two last year, but in the long term, I think it was the right way to go. A health work ethic is a great thing.
you seem to be forgetting how he often tried to do too much---ie not take a sack. smart money is on jr having a great year.
I expect great things from the special teams this year myself. Even if just because the guys will be much more expereinced as every guy on the teams has exceptional talent. And while the kickers had a rough season, I thought the play of our coverage teams was exceptional. I think XC and whoever else is deep on the KO's will be much better and more consistent. I look for us to break several long returns this season. Skyler should revert back to his old form art returning punts if his injury does not flare up again. The pass at the end of the game vs Iowa was not a special teams mistake and I won't blame the Albarn extra point penalty on the players, but on the coaches.
