This would probally be the BEST way to fix some of these chants. Taking away the song that the students were cheering to will just piss off many. Give them the "ima show them" attitude. I hope that the heads at LSU can think about trying to use leadership. If the leaders of this great football team get a message out, 95% sure i would work ( and not some letter in the paper of a corney commercial) Great idea:thumb:
You know , as I sat there listening to F U Spurrier,I thought "what is old visor boy thinking right now listening to that." I bet it was something like this...F me huh? No ... way back in 1986 when ya'll didnt hire me ,you people did it to yourselves. You have beaten me on the field a whopping 2 times with the largest margin of victory being today ...12 points...Meanwhile, I beat you 12 times as a coach and never lost as a player either.I hung over half a hundred on you more than once so F me? no F you... I hate it when people have better comebacks
I really don't think that by not playing the drum line is going to stop them from singing it. It certainly adds to the song, but it's not really needed for the students to do it anyway.
Ticket holders have no rights in Tiger Stadium, only privileges that can be revoked. LSU could make the student entry alcohol searches double thorough, slow, and obnoxious in addition to refusing admittance to any students who appear to be drunk already. Triple the security guards in every section. Close their concessions. Keep the pressure up until they behave. Then reward them by backing off if they keep behaving. Make them choose between obscene chants or getting to enjoy the game. Getting traditional songs and cheers banned is an outrage and interferes with the enjoyment of the other fans.
For the record they haven't pulled it...but using the Florida game as a test. If the organized vulgarity continues then it becomes an issue. I, for one, would prefer a classy approach to these cheers. For some reason some students think it would be funny for their legacy to contain something off-color. I'm not sure I understand that approach, even when I was a student. We always tried to conduct ourselves appropriatly and policed those we were with if they got out of hand. An even better legacy would be the first student popuation that decided enough was enough and buck the current trend. If it continues the way it is now look for "Hey Baby" to disappear also.
It would be a shame if the band had to stop playing the touchdown song just because of a few empty-headed, classless morons.
Yes, seriously. LSU wants to keep the ballgames family friendly. This is not something new. If you decide to use the f word around a marshal you will be warned and then if you keep it up, you will have a deputy escorting you out of the stadium. If you are being loud and vulgar in my section you will be gone I promise you. We were successful in putting a stop to the cup throwing in the student section by enforcing the policy of removing said cup throwers. The students started policing themselves when they realized that we would remove groups of students at a time when cups were being thrown. Sometimes the innocent got punished with the guilty. But it sure worked wonders, students started reporting the violators and policing themselves. Just because you purchase a ticket does not give you the right to act in a disorderly manner. If you cannot control yourself while drinking hey here's a novel idea, "Don't get drunk!":thumb:
Yes... Yes it is necessary for them to do it... Do you hear the ******* chant anymore? Nope. Tiger Band will play something during that TV timeout. Probably Hey if not the TD dance. If someone wants to stop it, a band making noise will do it. The whole problem with this is the band. This was a tradition started by band members that has become a huge part of us. Returning members look forward to teaching the new guys what their section does during the dance. It is the most fun thing we do for ourselves behind Pregame and running down the hill. It will probably stay for that reason alone. It means too much for the 325 members who earned the right to continue it. The students don't know or understand what goes on.
I don't agree with pulling the songs. I don't think the administration realizes that these college kids honestly don't care. The people who suffer here are the other non-students who enjoy the bands songs. If they pull this song, I GUARANTEE you that the students will add vulgarity to other songs. All it takes is a couple students to start it up. By pulling the songs, the administration is treating the students like 5-year old kids, because that is the only age group that this kind of repercussion would work on. Pulling songs only will make the situation worse. I bet they thought taking Tiger Rag out would make things better huh....so much for that theory. I agree with whoever came up with the idea of having one the main players call the students to behave. I hate to admit it, but the new generation does not like being restrained like this and will probably strive to get rid of all the songs if provoked enough. We care more about making a point rather than anything else. For those wondering, I don't chant any of the curse words, but I'm just throwing some future likelihoods of what will happen being a student myself.
