Oregon does not have the defense that they had last year guys. Complete front 7 replaced. Without Harris in the secondary, there secondary has a major drop off. So Kelly and the duckies know they are in trouble on the "D" against our power offense. They cannot say that about our defense. We will run early and often with long drives and short passes and screens to move down the field. Oregon is going to score no doubt about it. Who ever has the ball at the end of the game driving wins and special teams is a major factor also. If anyone turns the ball over on there side of the field 3 or 6 for sure. LSU has to sub constantly to stay fresh as we will with our depth. Thats the game, our depth keeps us in with the hurry up and the power running game milking the clock against a weaker duck defense wins this one. NO TURNOVERS TIGERS !
Grinding out a "running style" offense against Oregon is about clock control/game management and keeping Oregon's offense on the bench and out of rythm, see 2010 Auburn and 2009 Boise State. After all, Oregon's offense will score eventually, quickly and in bunches, which is why LSU needs to keep them on the bench.
it's gonna be a challenge for oregon's defense just like it will be for ours. yes, there will be two completely different teams on the field, stylistically and philosophically. but with that said, this game will come down to doing the same things as any other tough matchup: create turnovers and eliminate/limit our own, solid ball skills/tackling, and go into the game mentally prepared for a war. i know it sounds redundant but i keep finding myself forgetting the basics when i try to break down this matchup. it's gonna be a wild one.
The loss of Harris is huge. On the other hand, while the Ducks are replacing 7 graduating starters from last year on defense, in each and every case the replacement is both bigger and faster. There is a reason only one graduating senior last year got drafted. The Ducks have gone from mediocre recruiting classes to very good recruiting classes in the last 6 years. The west coast football insiders predict Oregon to have a BETTER defense this year, for above reasons. Now, will the loss of our very best defender negate this? I don't know. Edit P.S. Considering the LSU loss of starting QB, WR and your very best offensive line man, I am not too worried about LSU scoring lots of points. I am VERY worried about LSU defense shutting down the Duck offense, and LSU winning a very low scoring game.
I agree with this. Particularly on the first game of the season, teams are mistake prone, and likely have not found their "chemistry" of working together in game situation. LSU and Oregon are both elite teams. If one makes significantly fewer mistakes than the other, that team wins.
Chit happens. Check that. Tell him to put 10. And you didn't take into account our success running. :yelwink2:
LSU's OL had the 5 starters in all 70 plays, Oregon rotated D players. The LSU linemen looked like they could have played another half......
