There is the compromise; people should burn a copy of the declaration when they feel their rights are being violated and not the flag. Not a protected speech...hate speech may incite violence therefore it is not protected. Look it up.

Understand I am using that term broadly…you can’t promote violence against a group of people...you can say 'I hate white crackers..white crackers all are bastards that deserve to be treated like red headed step children." But you can't burn a cross on a white man's yard and scream "get out our town honkey"

I'll admit...I shouldn't of use the term "hate speech" I was unclear...and I'm sorry...I'll go spank myself later.

Wrong. Hate speech and incitement of violence are different things.

Laws prohibiting hate speech are unconstitutional in the United States, outside of obscenity, defamation, incitement to riot, and fighting words.[36][37][38] The United States federal government and state governments are broadly forbidden by the First Amendment of the Constitution from restricting speech.[39]

The "reason why ﬁghting words are categorically excluded from the protection of the First Amendment is not that their content communicates any particular idea, but that their content embodies a particularly intolerable (and socially unnecessary) mode of expressing whatever idea the speaker wishes to convey."[40] Even in cases where speech encourages illegal violence, instances of incitement qualify as criminal only if the threat of violence is imminent.[41] This strict standard prevents prosecution of many cases of incitement, including prosecution of those advocating violent opposition to the government, and those exhorting violence against racial, ethnic, or gender minorities.[42]

Under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, employers may sometimes be prosecuted for tolerating "hate speech" by their employees, if that speech contributes to a broader pattern of harassment resulting in a "hostile or offensive working environment" for other employees.[43][44]

In the 1980s and 1990s, more than 350 public universities adopted "speech codes" regulating discriminatory speech by faculty and students.[45] These codes have not fared well in the courts, where they are frequently overturned as violations of the First Amendment.[46] Debate over restriction of "hate speech" in public universities has resurfaced with the adoption of anti-harassment codes covering discriminatory speech.[47]

Let me catch you burning the American flag and I'll drop you where you stand, let me catch you protesting a fallen soldier's funeral, and I'll drop you where you stand, plain and simple. yunno flags are not "originals" you can make as many as you want.

would you be mad if i made a flag myself and burned it? what if i drew one in crayon and burned that? what if i am really artistic and my crayon flag looked amazing and made you cry with patriotism?

As that's not where they're kept, one might have a hard time finding them there.. :wave:

But, to all that say "well it was within his rights to burn it", I submit that it was well within the opposing folks rights to express their disgust with him for doing that. It works both ways.
