    i absolutely hate the pledge. its is very creepy and hitler youth. the whole point of being american is that i dont want to pledge allegiance to anything.

    that certainly doesnt help!

    anyways, even the singing of the national anthem is a bit nationalistic and weird. sometimes during the anthem i forget to take off my hat and people freak out. its like we are some weird totalitarian regime where respect for the reich is enforced by squads of jack-booted loons.

    america is awesome, best nation on earth. but lets not go overboard and get entangled in weird symbolism and blind loyalty. i think people that tend to freak out about this sort of thing are the type of peolpe that actually dont understand exactly why america is a good.

    You don't have to pledge allegiance to a king or a dictator that could sever your head if displeased. You only have to pledge allegiance to a flag. Will the flag execute you? Will the flag be upset if you aren't sincere? Can it see you roll your eyes? What an easy gig. The flag is your friend.

    how can this be seen as anything other than absurd.

    the flag isnt my friend! lets not give human attributes and feelings to the flag. he hates that.

    so i read the article in the advocate today, and i guess peeps did hit this idiot with water balloons. those folks throwing water balloons clearly should have been arrested.

    Were the rumors accurate that (some of) the water balloons contained urine? Did they ever release the speech that Haas intended to give?

    I guess it would be a little different if the speech focused more on praising the troops for protecting our freedoms rather than trying to defend the original flag burner.

    yes they did release the speech, the reveille site has it. it is pretty pointless.

    no clue if the balloons had urine in them, either way, the peeps who threw them are idiots and should be arrested, maybe given a 100$ fine or something.
