Unique? You should watch more football, they're used all over. LSU copied the stripes from UCLA just before the '57 or '58 season, just like Ole Miss and others. Those types of shoulder stripes are actually named "UCLA stripes". Now I'll agree that they're "traditional" for us simply because we've used them for so long. One thing I've griped about for years is that if we're going to use the UCLA stripes then have them go all the way around. The half stripes being used now look ridiculous. I would rather no stripes on the jerseys than have the current look. Apparently Ole Miss thinks more of the stripes than we do, check the link: http://media.www.thedmonline.com/media/storage/paper876/news/2002/07/16/Sports/Something.New.On.Our.Sleeves-1583041.shtml
The jerseys were changed to the half stripe because with the full stripe the fabric bunched up under the players arms. This gave the opponents something to grab onto. So the coaching staff went to the half stripes to help prevent it.
The Short haired girl must be your "Wing Man"! :yelwink2: If I weren't married....15 years younger.....you get the picture.....:thumb: PLUS You're wearing Tiger Purple!!! :geauxtige :geauxtige :geauxtige :geauxtige
Now, G-LSU, I'm telling your wife--and since I know her, you know I can! By the way, if you walk down Azinger to sell Boy Scout popcorn this year, we won't be at the old house. We moved this summer (near the Independence police substation.)
Yea, instead of simply changing the design and keeping the full stripe. With the current design there's still enough fabric under the arm where the stripe can be extended all the way around without bunching up, just a matter of design.
I'm just saying it was changed for function not to be cute. half stripe, full stripe, no stripe, red stripe, pretty lace around the collar. I personally don't care what they wear as long as they are winning.
FYI? Dude, they were copied from UCLA. UCLA was the originator of this idea, anything else is simply a variation thereof. There's nothing unique or distinct about the appearance of the shoulder stripes on LSU jerseys, they're everywhere. piping/stripes or any other way... How are they a distinction if so many colleges/pros have 'em? In a black & white photo you can't tell an LSU jersey from a hundred other high school/college/pro teams. Again, if you don't care then why bother with the thread?
