Re: LSU v Tulane; 6:30; radio Where do you think would be better? he was at the advocate and it's not like the times-pic is hiring. TD is not a place any of us like, but it's better than him not working, or worse starting yet another LSU News site. Incidentally, geauxshow.com will be launching a redesign soon....
Re: LSU v Tulane; 6:30; radio That's a fair point, income is income. I'm all too aware that times are tough, and finding a job in the shrinking traditional media market must be especially hard. I've talked to Carl briefly via email a couple of times, he seems like a good guy. From what I've read in his articles, he makes a good faith effort with his LSU coverage. Saying "I hope he gets a better gig in the near future" may not be realistic at the moment, but still... I hope he gets a better gig in the near future!
Same thing that has happened to damn near every newspaper. Revenue is way down and he got cut. If memory serves, they were nice enough to ask him to take a pretty substantial pay cut rather then get fired. Better than what the HouChron did to it's college sports dept. It's a damn shame that a good writer like Dubois can't find a gig, while that retard in Shreveport still has a job.
Carl gave his version of events in a forum called sportsjournalists.com under the user name Johnny Dangerously. Unfortunately that site now makes you log in, so the original thread is now for members only. But if you search google for carl dubois "A good man walks away", you can read the cached version without logging in. Basically The Advocate seems to have acted with very little empathy for their employee and forced Carl’s hand.
Re: LSU v Tulane; 6:30; radio definitely true. this is why i switched my concentration from print journalism to public relations. i can't say that i was ever particularly interested in PR, but there are a LOT more options. it's just sad that with this "internet-age," just about anyone can start a blog and pretend that they know how to report. with PR, i find that the concentration is more broad due to its nature, but especially because of the "real-word application" possibilities. advertising, human relations, business relations... plus since there isn't really any need for accreditation these days with "journalism," i figure i already have enough experience in that field anyway. i'm stepping off of my soapbox now! lol.
