The problem is McCune is still very average. He's not terrible, but not great. With some momentum, Houston is thinking upset and we need some early momentum. 2-3 3 and outs with our bats getting a run or two and Houston will crumble.

He's also our 5th or 6th best reliever. A middle reliever, if you will.

Not someone you put in the game up 1-0 in the 7th.

We could be looking at ten #1 seeds out of the tournament.

Rice, FSU, Florida, South Carolina all out.

LSU, UL-L and Indiana in a one game take all.

Miami, Cal Poly, Oregon State all needing to win 2 games in a row. Miami down by 1 run in the 8th inning (suspended).

Ole Miss would have to lose twice in a row.

oh definitely. I'm not pinning this on McCune at all ... like I said he's average and it's on CPM for having him in there. Bouman could have probably gone at least one more inning, possible 2 more innings.

Likely Cartwright will start. Bugg is the kid I have been waiting for to get some real distant innings. Kid is a friggin stud but we have only seen him in spurts. Could be he has been held back through development so here is an opportunity to see if he can get 2+ innings in. After that, it is all hands on deck.

It is what it is but the sky is not falling and I believe we have the arms to get it done. If it were a continuing issue with bats trying to overpower the ball, I'd be more concerned but our pen has been reliable all year long with few examples to prove otherwise. Should actually be a fun game to watch all things considered. Houston has an extra game in as many days. We will see how much gas is in their tank. I am guessing the Cougars are the home team?

They should be the home team yes. And I still think we win, probably even win big. But we need to get it done early. As tired as they are if we let them stick around that confidence will grow. If we put our foot on their throat early, they'll give in like the bitches they are!
