Switching over to football, LSU offensive coordinator Steve Ensminger met with the media for a Q&A yesterday and discussed the good and the bad from this past season. Ensminger dished on not being able to run his favored two-tight end set due to tight end depth – i.e., injuries to Jamal Pettigrew (ACL) and Thaddeus Moss (foot) – as well as protection issues that affected virtually every element of the offense including the development of LSU’s young wide receivers. He also spoke of how having only one blocking tight end hindered the Tigers’ run game, too, particularly in goal-line situations, and how he was unable to run about 30 percent of his offense due to various reasons. But if you think Ensminger was just dishing out excuses, he was not. He took the fall for the debacle versus Alabama when the Tigers totaled 12 yards rushing and failed to score. In this article by The Advocate which details his presser, Ensminger says, “I put that one on me, I'll be honest with you. We weren't very good inside the 30-yard line. We got down there two or three times. We missed a couple of throws. I told our offense, I put that one on me.” Ensminger also spoke positively of next year’s team and raised expectations by saying the incoming recruiting class “answered everything we need to answer,” according to the report.

Did the offense suck this year? Yes. Was Ensminger the OC this year? Yes. Did Ogeron promise to fix the offense? Yes. I’m not eating crow if Ensminger figures it out next year. That doesn’t erase this year.
