And, if USC takes third in the NYT poll and nips Mich ... as Tellshow's "gut feeling" .... his choice of words ... LSU is out

Maybe they could rip the roof off the Orange Dome and have a nice snowstorm for the Syracuse game, just like Bowling Green & Miami, LOL.

    God, I hate Noter Dame.

I'm worried about both the NYT and Wolfe polls. I thought we'd have made up a little more ground than we have so far. The weird thing about those two polls though is that it seems your rating can actually go DOWN after a win. I think that could be a possibility for USC with a win over Oregon State. I don't believe there's anyway that LSU's rating goes anywhere but up with a win over Georgia. We'll have to wait and see.

In evaluating the Syracuse/Notre Dame game, which is still the most important to LSU as I see it, here are some observations.

    1) Syracuse is 4-2 at home
    2) Notre Dame is 2-3 on the road
    3) Notre Dame will get a bowl bid should they finish 6-6...you know every sad-ass bowl will want Notre Dame
    4) Syracuse is only playing to avoid a losing season, NOBODY will pick them up in a bowl game

Notre Dame will not get a bowl bid at 6-6. All of the big east bowl tie ins will be taken and that is the road the domers use to get bowl bids.

I am only slightly worried about the NYTimes and Wolfe polls not going LSU's way.

First, in the NYTimes, they weigh recent results more heavily. What this means is a win over Georgia is worth more in game 13 than it was the first time we played them in game 4. Also SOS seems to be weighed more significantly in this poll as well, so 10-2 Georgia's SOS over 6-4 Oregon State will be signifant as well. If Hawaii would win, then I am a bit more worried in the NYTimes poll, since USC's SOS would improve. All in all I think we end up 2nd anyway.

In the Wolfe poll, we made up exactly half of our disadvantage to USC this past week by beating Arkansas, the 23rd ranked team (in Wolfe). Georgia is ranked a very strong 5, very close to the 4th spot. USC increased their score since their SOS improved, especially with Hawaii beating Alabama. USC improved by .077. LSU improved by 1.62. The way I look at it, LSU beating Georgia and USC beating Oregon State is a bigger advantage to LSU than LSU beating Arkansas and USC idle. Again, a Hawaii upset over Boise State would have me a bit more concerned about this poll.

Tigerdog, can you explain in somewhat more detail what you are saying? I don't have the info on bowl selection stuff, so can you shed some light on this? It would be better to know Notre Dame has no chance at a bowl game.

Seems that I heard somewhere a couple of weeks ago that there
were bowls w/ at-large bids that would be interested in a 6-6
Notre Dame team. But I'm not 100% sure on that, so don't hold me to it.

As I understand it, a 6-6 ND team cannot go to a bowl. Their tie-ins through the Big East are all taken.
