I have always said that we were lucky to get the SECCG in Nick's second year & lucky to get into the NC game with a home loss to a mediocre Florida team. I'd say that many agreed, it just wasn't something that was talked about alot.

We won the NC game once we got there, that is what counts. That doesn't change the fact that we were lucky to be there. I don't hate Saban, and quite honestly, I don't understand why any LSU fan would. Saban is the same guy now that he was when he was here - its just easier for our fans to see it now.

(1)Red's right! He's not saying we didn't have a good team with good talent. But we're all getting sick of hearing it both ways with Saben's Talent won for us the past two years and then they turn around and don't admit the fact that Saben won with alot of Dinardo's talent his first two years as well.

    (2) We did have great talent this past year, nobodies arguing we didn't, but the fact remains that the writers and coaches voted alot of players on other teams as all-sec etc. We probably should have had more all-sec on the team than were voted, but that being said I got sick of everyone saying we had the best team ever and therefore it was all miles fault for us not being 13-0. Sometimes bad breaks happen and the better team might not always win on the field, Some of that was obviously on the head coaches shoulders I'm not trying to minimize that cause it starts with the coach, but after a while you have to look at a larger body of work in someone's first two years then one of two individual games.

    (3) Anybody who follows sports for many years will agree with the old saying "sometimes it's better to be lucky than good" as well as the fact that it's always something like 90% talent and coaching and 10% getting the breaks. The way the always crap-shoot BCS system is set-up this is probably never been more true than in College football.
One of the best examples ever was this year when Florida streight-up lucked it's way into the National Chamionship when they had absolutely NO chance if UCLA doesn't pull the miracle win over USC. But after Florida dominated Ohio State for the NC I didn't hear anybody claim they got lucky , they obviously should have been there and deserved it with the talent they had. I say all that to defend the kid cause he's pretty much right on when describing our Championship year. It has nothing to do with "watering down" what Saben and LSU accomplished in one of our best football years ever. Everything had to fall right into place for us to even have a chance of getting in, right down to Hawaii beating Notre-dame at 3 am after we dominated Georgia for the SEC-champ. But beating Oklahoma legitimized everything we did over that year and is what everybody will remember us by.
