Well regret sex is sexual assault under Texas law. If this was a case of that and he was 18 while she was 16/17, it is much different than if he sexually assaulted a minor. if the the the later is the case, I'll buy the bullet.
Just reading this drier and it may not be as bad as originally thought... Hear me out, not trying to excuse sexual assault by any stretch... Looking at his age, he would've been 18 when this happened (born in February) and the females in question could've been 17 and it still would count as sexual assault of a minor, correct? Just think of all the high school seniors (girls and boys) that date and take Juniors to the prom... I don't know if this is what happened but it could be the case here and could be why he was "only" kicked off the team...
