I am not worried about Pelini at all. I think the Defense will get after their QB and force turnovers and force ASU to run the ball, which they don't know how...hahaha
I am not in the least worried about the defense. Pelini's record speaks for itself. We will be fine. Our QB situation is what worries me
Everyone on this forum, whether they want to admit it or not, shares your concern on defense, especially the perceived weak link in the secondary after losing our two great corners. ASU has that one great receiver that will have to be double covered. He can be compared to Saban, but he is not Saban's equal. I believe he's better than Muschamp. No one in college ball could touch the master, and LSU hoisted a crystal in 2003 to prove it. But he's just about the next best thing and he has all of Saban's talent and training in place, he'll do fine at LSU. I am wondering how many yards and completions the LSU pass defense will allow in this game. LSU cannot allow ASU to move the chains via an effective air attack. This QB Sam Keller is a rookie with 3 starts. I think LSU can get to him early. I believe ASU will come out passing and Pelini will blitz him early. The key to the game will be ASU's effectiveness on the short stuff. LSU needs a couple of early turnovers and serious QB pressure early. I can't wait for this game, I'm like a kid trapped in a locked down candy store that can't get at any of the goodies.
One of the better safety tandem in college, a shutdown talent at one cb, a veteran player at the other, and the LBs seem to be impressing the entire staff. What wraps it up is this, Miles has said numerous times that the O is having real trouble running the ball against our DL. Let me repeat, our RBs apparently cannot run on our DL. We'll be more than competitive
Vaunted Tiger is correct. we all should be concerned about our defense given Saban cannot be replaced in that area. he is the best of the best even in the pros in that area. He's a veritable defensive genius. corners is not what should worry us as far as replacing CW and TD. Last year they weren't nowhere close to the 2003 version and rarely if ever had a consistent game collectively. Prude was all over the field and continuously in on plays similar to KW disrupting the backfield or creating havoc allowing others to gain an edge. Prude will be solid if not awesome this year. however, the only time you notice dbs is when they make mistakes. hopefully only few if any. bostonbengals claim that big plays means the defense is on the field more is incorrect. If LSU has a lot of big plays it doesnt mean it was faster than 3 plays and a punt. actually it usually equates to the opposing team playing from behind putting them in passing situations and shortening their possessions. defensive scores are another thing altogther but I'll take a few of those and a couple of blocked kicks as well. this will be an entertaining game and possibly a heart wrencher since ASU has a game under their belt which is a huge advantage we cannot dismiss. what really worries me is our linebackers. Cameron vaughn moving to MLB is not good given now we need him at OLB due to EJ's injury. He should be disrupting the outside and adding pressure to Keller given his pedigree but some say he may be soft. I dunno but with KW being double teamed the running game will be in the LB's hands. let's hope they step up. LSU-- 26-23 in a desert thriller.
Well Guys I started feeling condident in the defense after reading most of these posts. It seems only Tirk and I were the concerned ones. Loco- do you care to retract that statement? :hihi: I didn't see any blitzing at all until the 4th quarter and it was effective. The key to disrupting a passing team is messing up their rythm and timing and keeping the QB guessing as to when the blitz is coming. Sam Keller has hardly no PT and didn't have the experience to read blitzes and coverages yet Bo gives him the same look everytime. CParso- he is hot right now because he is in the frying pan right now. Having two PAC 10 teams light your defense up 2 games in a row isn't a great D scheme. I'm not picking on you two but I started to feel good after reading these comments on Friday but I feel I was right to be concerned. I don't like this plan of soft zone. The only team I think this might work on is Florida because of the offensive scheme they have. Otherwise we need to get back to blitzing and playing man.
