Preseason polls mean nothing. They are just projections and mostly biased ones at that. Who knows what teams will perform next year? USC might lose half their starters to injury and wind up not ranked at all. LSU might have an unbelievable offense next year and go undefeated. Who knows? Thats why these polls are useless only play on the field matters.
Exactly. Preseason polls mean a tremendous amount if you want in the national championship game. If you think they don't, tell it to Auburn. If USC and another team in the top ten or fifteen finishes undefeated, and LSU starts at #18 in the preseason poll and finishes undefeated, we will not get into the national championship game. I don't really have a problem with LSU ranked anywhere from #2 - #20 as long as it is an honest opinion. I would say most people expect LSU to finish 9-2 and probably make it to the conference championship. If they lost the SEC championship or their bowl game, I could see a three loss LSU finishing out of the top ten and as low as twenty. (Just like last year's three loss team did) I do think we are a much more talented team this year, especially at quarterback. We won't have to deal with the politics of starting a fifth year senior because its his turn or it would make Spears and Webster upset if he doesn't. Hopefully, we will actually have a real passing game this year.
Compelled by sheer boredom, I'll bite on this one. Are you really suggesting that the 2003 Coach of the Year, the conqueror, the Savior of LSU Football, the man responsible for making me (a grown man) weep like a school girl on January 4, 2004 was playing politics with the most important position on the field? If there was a key to punch you in the nose on my keyboard I would hit it right now. In fact, from this point on, my symbol for "punch yourself in the face" will be: >^ Do you honestly think Nick Saban played kids based on what year in school they were? Can you honestly imagine a scenario where Spears and Webster entered Nick Saban's office to request that they, not him, decide who starts at QB? Are you saying that Marcus Spears and Corey Webster are bratty divas? Please elaborate...
Now that's a good post. Last year's QB situation wasn't about politics or a couple of players' feelings. It was simply about having no QB step up and play well consistently. Both Randall and Russell showed signs of brilliance at times, and both stunk it up pretty bad at other times. Example for Randall - Florida game. Example for Russell - bowl game. Each had their moments, but neither delivered consistently. And Flynn barely had a chance to get dirt on his uniform. Hopefully this season will be better. I honestly think (hope) Perrilloux coming in will push both Russell and Flynn to elevate their game...and I think one of the 3 is bound to step up and kick some butt. But this thread is not about the QB situation... All I was originally going to say is that Maisel is a total moron, and his opinion holds about as much weight as a rabbit turd.
