To compare them to Tulane the year they went undefeated seams a bit ridiculous. Also I don't think they are a 2007 version of Boise state or Wake Forest. They've beaten a couple of really good teams in Auburn and West Virginia and have looked impressive in their other games. I think they are the real deal, not the best team or even 2nd best team in the country but how can you argue with there ranking right now.
When our great grandchildren look back at our generation, they will laugh heartily at the BCS system, and the fact that we let computers and coaches decide which two teams would play for the national title. They will laugh and laugh as they sit in Death Valley, cheering on their LSU Tigers, who will be winning real championships in the College Football Playoffs!
I think Oregon should be above OSU. But the college football world doesn't want to let in the new beasts. They want the typical USC. OSU, OU and UT type games. LSU has a long road ahead to see the SECC let alone the NC. I say lets get through the rest of the season undefeated before we continue this talk. besides BCS polls shouldn't be revealed until around wk 9-10. Then you see how deep and well rounded conferences are and the teams within them.
C-USA does not have a BCS automatic birth; whether or not they should is another topic entirely. Too Lame didn't go to a BCS bowl in '98 because of their weak schedule. Hell, at this point in the season Arizona State and Kansas deserve top 5 consideration also, but rankings do not matter in the BCS until the final week. If you win all of your games, the rankings will take care of itself.
After studying Mandels' power rankings and reading everyones posting I think this is the most accurate poll out there. I like his comments that he could be lazy like the AP and Coaches Polls and just move OSU to number 1. Mandel spends the time and effort to rank where everyone should be based on how they have played up until now. I think if the other pollsters were locked in a room for 5 hours to discuss and rank both the AP and Coaches polls the rankings would be very different but also close to what Stew's rankings are.
