Pittman and Spears Named to Hendricks Award Watch List. I don't know if you guys have seen this or not. Not to bad for Pittman, he must have impressed some people to be put on this list when he didn't even start last year. http://www.lsusports.net/article.cfm?ref=B9320B7B-A59F-CD6B-2B599EF51DEE1A83
I think Pittman has the talent to be Jevon Kearse type of player. If he can get his playing weight up to the 250 lb range and with his speed, he could be a dominate DE!
http://www.leesvilledailyleader.com/articles/2004/05/26/sports/sports1.txt LSU defensive ends named to award watch list. BATON ROUGE -- LSU's Marcus Spears and Kirston Pittman are both among 37 defensive ends from across the country named to the 2004 Ted Hendricks Award Pre-Season Watch List. The award, which is in its third year of existence, is presented to college football's top defensive end. Last year, Georgia's David Pollack won the award, while Terrell Suggs of Arizona State captured the inaugural award in 2002. Among the criteria used to determine the winner include on-field performance, leadership abilities and contributions to school and community.
That says a lot for Pittman. He wasn't even a starter and saw limited time on the field and now he is considered on of the top 37 DE's in the nation. Apparently LSU fans weren't the only ones that saw his great potential.
He'll get more PT this year, but won't be a "starter." To be considered is truly an indicator of his developing talent.
