One of the things I always love about this time of year is to see the opening round matchup in the regional. There have been quite some memorable matchups, The Citadel cmijng to the forefront of my mind for example. LSU has played host to many "small" schools in the regionals over the years and many of those players have spoken very highly about their games at The Box. This year, the Marist Red Foxes of the MAAC visit as the #4 seed. It is their fourth MAAC championship in the last six years and their fifth since 1997. They come into this game with two respectable starters in Chris Tracz & Jonathan Smith and a solid closer in Robert Ryan. The most likely starter for the matchup against LSU will be Tracz. He is a senior lefty for the red foxes and has a 28-8 career record there. This season his record is 9-3. #36 - Chris Tracz SR, LHP Record: (9-3) Another possible starter would be Smith, a junior lefty with a 7-1 record. #41 Jonathan Smith JR, LHP Record: (7-1) > History & Heritage of Marist College < I am hopeful that a few of the Marist fans will happen upon this website during the week. Welcome to Baton Rouge red foxes. May your stay be enjoyable and brief! :yelwink2: One other note, anyone who can get ERA's and stats for the Marist team, geaux for it. :tigbas: :tigbas: :tigbas: :tigbas: :tigbas: :tigbas: :tigbas:

Offense looks weak, only one starter above .300 and they only hit 20 HR's as a team. All of a sudden, I'm extremely comfortable using Lane in game one.

Look at all of those steals though, apparently they can run, which won't be good for Lane (a ground ball pitcher) with our weak infield defense. Taco or English, maybe?
no matter how weak their stats are, if lane can't find the strike zone, then BA's dont mean a thing... i think they will start lane though... i would love for taco or english to start...get a little postseason experience against a weaker team (Marist apparently isn't THAT horrible):tigbas: :geauxtige :tigbas:
I think Lane would be a good option becasue he can stop them from stealing he still has a very good move to first and maybe he can get some confodence from this game.
His delievery to the plate is slow and we've had a lot of problems throwing runners out so I don't think Lane is going to stop them from stealing. In the end, I'd still say start Lane, if he can't beat Marist then he has some serious issues. But its not like we don't have the bullpen or offense to make up for it.
You may be right i do remember in his earlier years teams had a hard time running on him because of his great move to first, and he picke off a lot of runners. I havent seen any of his starts this year though, and it doesnt suprise me that he has lost that also.
