If the coaching staff can dream up plays for a WR to take the snap, surely they can use a running quarterback. There have been several second team quarterbacks that have helped their teams win when the offense was struggling. Does the name Tebowe ring a bell? How about Georgia? Richt used a running quarterback, Shockely, in special situations. When Jimbo was at Auburn they had a dropback quarterback. A young Dameyuene Craig was used in short yardage and goal line situations. Both Shockly and Craig were ready to start once the Senior Quarterbacks left. If I remember correctly both Shockley and Craig led their teams to victories over LSU as Seniors.
They use Doucet in shotgun the same way they would use a running QB - except Doucet is a better runner than either Flynn or Perrilloux. Flynn is really quick, but is not a great runner. If Flynn was used the way Tebow is, it would fail miserably. Flynn can scramble when the field is stretched, other than that he is not much more effective than JaMarcus. So why have him come in the game for a few snaps when he gives such a little advantage in one area - especially when the coaches feel that JaMarcus gives us a big advantage in all the other areas?
Not sure I ever said Flynn needed to be disregarded. I was only tryig to say he has gotten enough playing time given the games this season. I just don't agree that Flynn should be used like Tebow as some people have suggested. Flynn is a 1st or 2nd down spread the offense delayed QB draw type runner, not a 3rd and short pound it in the middle runner like Tebow. And I don't use tapes.
if Flynn meant 1 and 1/2 semesters left, he will graduate on schedule in May and be eligible for a transfer waiver.
LSU has been the best team in the country at scoring TD's in the Redzone. If you take away the redzone opportunities where LSU let the clock run out instead of trying to score, our TD percentage is absolutely incredible at 30 out of 36 chances. I'd rather they not try anything different.
Actually, I think the biggest advantage of putting Doucet in at QB is that you don't tip off the change to the defense too early. If the Defense sees Flynn running in (without a Russell injury), they will probably call the defense necessary to stop a QB draw. By putting Doucet there, you can keep Russell in as a blocking WR and take advantage of some personnel mismatches. (Of course, that strategy relies on a quick snap, which I haven't seen us do when Doucet is in the backfield.) Since I figure JR will go pro, I think Flynn will be back. GEAUX TIGERS
Here's a definitive report: Bomar will never play for OU again. He has been enrolled at Sam Houston State since the beginning of the fall and is sitting out this year due to punishment by the NCAA. He and Quinn embarrassed Stoops and Oklahoma. There is no chance in hell they will be allowed back. Since the incident, Stoops has rarely referred to Bomar by name when questioned. It's usually "the quarterback" (or 'the guy') we had last year" . Even if Stoops allowed Bomar to come back on the team, the fan backlash would be tremendous. As far as Flynn goes - hey, we can use all the help we can get next year at QB.
