I completely understand that point of view, but I still wanna see RP get a little playing time. If he does well, then stick with him. Look at what Chad Henne did last year at Michigan. Michael Vick was red-shirted, but still a freshman when we hed Va Tech to the BCS Title game. i played against RP in high school, and his natural talent is second to none. I have to conceed that LSU's chances to win the National Title are better with Russell or Flynn, but if LSU loses a game or two, then they need to start playing for the future, and that's RP.

OK, so maybe he WASN'T joking....

Why go somewhere just for guaranteed p.t.? I can think of about a hundred schools he would be the starter upon walking onto campus. Do we seriously need to discuss the reasons for taking the road less travelled?

absolutely, I'd love to see him play, but look at the problem now... qb contreversey and he's not even listed in the contreversey... I think he's going to be great, but maybe he should have went somewhere with a better chance of getting early play time. just my $.02

BTW, I get your point that he could sit behind JR for two years. But w/ one redshirt year, and one rs freshman year, he would only be a sophomore. PLENTY of time to get his name engraved on the Heisman. Threepeat sounds pretty good to me, but I'll settle for back to back.

wasnt it chris simms that went to UT before transferring to austin because he was behind peyton? being great doesnt mean you're better than everyone.. he picked the only sec school that he'd be third on the depth chart at, and honestly, I can't blame the coaches for having him there... he's young and doesnt know the system yet...maybe in a year he's got the system and knows the team well enough to start... but then he's still got two older guys to contend with.

lol touche' I mean, in an ideal world yes, but I just dont see him redshirting this year... it just seems like he's too special to sit for at least two years.

there are two all-world recruits in front of him... only one year ahead of him.[/QUOTE]

If Russell and Flynn are all-world compared to RP, then what's he? All-Universe. Don't forget, he was the #1 QB in the nation by a mile, and he dominated the Army All Star game.

JaMarcus was special too. After signing on the dotted line, you're just a freshman that plays football. It works both ways. Both the player AND the school can benefit by an extra year.

Hell, I'd like to see him in garbage time this year and screw the redshirt, but that's more for instant gratification. Were it not for that, I'd love for him to take his time and develop into the role of an NCAA legend, not a Quincy Carter.
