Miles has said that he doesn't want RP to redshirt because he wants atleast 3 scholarship QBs able to play.

I'm not attempting to predict the future, just going with what I hear from Coach Miles & others close to the situation.

I believe that Ryan will play at QB in 2005, whether it's in cleanup or not. Most people here wouldn't view it as wasting a year because they don't think he'll be here 4 years, much less 5. I wouldn't be suprised if Ryan and/or Miles feel the same way.

    We'll find out soon enough.

If, "big if" Russell and/or Flynn come out and lead LSU to a few wins and play well, like Jimbo and Les think they'll do, RP will not be interested in burning a year. No matter what was said during recruiting and during the 2-a-days. Russell was our third string QB back in 2003. He even warmed up to go in vs. Arizona when LSU was up 40.... Saban decided against it and saved the kid/program a year... JR remained our third string QB the rest of the year. He would have played if Mauck would have injured himself and if MR was being MR......

I hope RP has and displays the talent he supposedly has while at LSU.......but come on, he hasn't even taken a snap and you are already talking about him leaving early????? Gimmie a break!!!!!

Don't get me wrong I hope that when its his turn that he does so well that he hast the opportunity to leave early, but don't you think its a little early?

note: not directed solely at you CParso but rather everyone that already thinks he will leave early.

I was just going to leave this thread alone... but there's a long day ahead & I'm bored.

    So,

Crawfish: It's hard to say that Miles would do the same thing in that situation. Since we are dealing with a new coach I'm not going to go off of anything with the way it was done in the past. If Saban was still the coach, it would be a different story.

geauxscott: Is there someone else on this board with a name similar to yours? I keep thinking your someone else, but anyway... back on subject. I'm not saying that Ryan won't be here all 4 years - just that many people don't think he will & it wouldn't shock me if Ryan himself & perhaps coach Miles are considering this same possability.

not sure about the name thing....

I understand where you are coming from. But i just don't understand how some fans of the SEC and football in general think that a freshman is just going to come in and take over in this conference. Its not an easy thing to do.....yeah Chris Leak came in and got the nod and did very well, but he also had no competition in front of him. I just don't see RP getting enough playing time his freshman and soph years to even think about leaving early. If he redshirts he will have atleast 2 full seasons as THE MAN and possible 3 if JR has two great seasons and decides to leave after his Jr. year.

Gee, talk about missing the point.

I could care less if dude came into practice looking like Lara Flynn Boyle. What I *do* care about is all this discussion of how he had to essentially crash diet in order to make weight. Many of the write-ups surrounding this story come from full-blown JR enablers---"he's never had a problem with weight before", "he's not that expressive but, you know, he still kinda gets his point across to teammates. Kinda"---and I say the devil is in the details.

These mealy-mouthed comments about how JR is a leader but that he "expresses" it differently, combined with his (still inexplicable) weight struggles--when, as mentioned above, "he didn't have" such problems in the past--calls into question how bad this guy really, really wants it.

In total, this sounds rather Brooks-ian, is all I'm saying. Saints fans have been enabling AB for years, and I'd hate to have to pull double-duty questioning both guys this fall if I can avoid doing so. Ideally, JR goes out and plays lights out and I say, "I'm glad I was wrong", but until then I'm curious to see how Matt Flynn conducts himself over the next few weeks and the first two games or so, leading up to Tennessee.

PS- I'd put JR a notch above AB insofar that he doesn't smile when he throws an INT. :yelwink2:

    Weight troubles????

the man gained 8-10lbs (about 4% of his weight), then lost it....big deal!! I would hardly call that a "crash diet"

well I'll just go with what the "coaches" are saying about Russell.

Some people can't deal with the fact that RP, who'll end up being a great Tiger in time, will not be a 4 year starter at LSU and even have to wait his turn to shine....

I remember all the LSU fans that gave up on RO Davey early in his college career. JaMarcus will be just fine. I expect him to perform at an ALL SEC level this year.

Just like RP, there's a reason why JaMarcus was such a highly sought after recruit.......

If Perrilloux doesnt win the job and doesnt redshirt, I would like to see him on the field in a Kordell Stewart/Slash-type roll... If you put the guy in and run one play a game with him at a non-qb position, then he can serve as an excellent decoy. Or... for example, you line up in a 2 back shotgun with perrilloux as one of the backs... you can either snap to JR/MF and pass, or to RP and pass, or better yet, snap to RP and have he and the runningback run a speed option...
