All I know is I heard Miles on TV say Russell was 20+ pounds over-weight (or higher then last year's weight)

Some of you guys are sick. Every time someone doesnt say that LSU is the greatest team in the world, they're crazy in your opinion. Same is to be said if anyone says that RP isn't the second-coming of Jesus.

Why say he should have gone to McNeese? Mocking me by saying that just shows how ignorant you are. You know, there are plenty of programs = to or > LSU. They are not the only program in the world. Let me remind you that you can be successful other places. A school with TWO GREAT QUARTERBACKS AHEAD OF HIM, a NEW HEAD COACH, and A LOT OF PRESSURE TO WIN is not exactly the best situation in the world.

Also, I think everyone knows that the kid isnt going to take a reshirt because A) if lsu doesnt win the nat'l championship, 80% of you guys are going to start questioning miles for never playing RP. B) before he put on a pair of shoulder pads, he said he was going to compete for the starting job immediately... yeah
sounds like a guy that's ready to wait his turn ;) and C) he really is that great of a talent, but this is JM and MF's THIRD season, and we're talking about who has grasped the concept of the offense best. Not who has mastered it, but who has grasped it the most. what makes you think that RP just picks it up in a redshirt season?

so get off the man's nuts. he's going to be great, but dont just go ahead and say that two great players are going to be overthrown by a young guy who doesnt even know an audible yet.

    lol, MarineTiger playing dumb.

You know that interview on WWL was before the players reported back to school. Coaches always send messages to their players during the offseason about conditioning via radio, newspaper, tv........You've seen the articles and comments that state JaMarcus Russell reported back to LSU in great shape with no issues on his weight. Les Miles said he was happy to see JR in such good shape.....

Not playing dumb at all. Saw the interview with my own eyes and had yet to read another article stating otherwise.

    From The Advocate:

He's also in good shape. Summer reports of his weight climbing to 260 pounds led to wide speculation he would need extra conditioning in preseason camp, but Fisher and first-year coach Les Miles said such talk had no basis in fact.

"He might have gotten to about 260, but we forget -- he's 6-foot-6," Fisher said. "He and (former LSU defensive end) Marquise Hill looked each other eye to eye. If JaMarcus wasn't playing quarterback, we'd be griping because his hand wasn't in the dirt and he weighed 300 pounds and he was running off the edge.

"People forget, but JaMarcus is 3 inches taller than Ro, a lot bigger in the lower body, and in the upper body. His shoulders are broader than Ro's. At times, Ro weighed 270."

Fisher said he couldn't be happier about Russell's fitness level.

"He looks good," Fisher said. "He's been between 245 and 250 here now -- even less when he sweats it out during practice. I think he's in really good shape."

LSU coaches would like him to keep his weight between 245 and 252 pounds. Any more weight would put an unnecessary load on his legs, knees and ankles, which are already subject to wear and tear because he is a skill-position player.

Fisher said Russell has a body NFL coaches would love to see in their quarterback.

"Daunte Culpepper doesn't have the bone structure he does," Fisher said, "and Culpepper weighs in the 260s."
