over the years i have come to value the opinions of the cfn contributors way above that of any other sports media outlet. i am not naive enough to stop respecting their opinions just because they have a bad one about the coach of my team. if i was forced to bet my life on it, id have to bet that cfn is correct. (dont forget, they too acknowledged a source that said what herbie reported--they just chose not to run with it) they certainly have more connections than i do, and, besides, its not like i know clm personally. you will be missing out on some great college football analysis if you decide to stop visiting their website.
Yeah, I think that's all that's going on here with Zemek's article. The whole Les Miles to Michigan thing really gave the media a black eye. Zemek, as part of the media, is just trying to defend the media by putting the blame on Miles for leaving the media "twisting in the wind, where speculation is their only reality and refuge" (as one of his earlier pieces described it).
Mr. Zemek's e-mail: [email protected] see http://cfn.scout.com/2/557921.html It's a story were he reviews the year in coaching. This is what he said about SEC coaches: Coach Who Requires a Highly Philosophical Ten-Page Essay In Order to Be Understood Accurately and Treated Fairly: Les Miles, LSU/Michigan/Somewhere In Between Coaches Unjustly Axed: Ed Orgeron, Mississippi. Unloved Coaches of the Year (If Not Beyond): Nutt, when at Arkansas ... Philip Fulmer, Tennessee ... One sentence should sum up all these admittedly different case studies: Criticism is far easier to dish out than praise, among fan bases or in the national media. (It also has a particularly adhesive quality--that never helps.) Quality Coaches Who Are Struggling: Steve Spurrier, South Carolina; Nick Saban, Alabama; Tommy Tuberville, Auburn. Loudly and Emphatically Good 2007 Performances: Croom, Mississippi State The Best Of The Best, Hands Down: In order of current quality, the four best coaches in the United States who have proven their worth year after year are, as follows: 1) Pete Carroll, Southern California, and Jim Tressel, Ohio State (tie); 3) Bob Stoops, Oklahoma; 4) Mark Richt, Georgia.
Yes, you're right. Sure, Miles was a football player in high school (being named to the All State team in the 7th largest state in the U.S.), and sure, Miles was a football player in college (on one of the greatest football teams in history), and sure, Miles has 27 years of coaching experience in the Big Ten, Big 12, NFL, and SEC, but yeah, we should fire Miles and pay you millions to coach our team.
I don't think there is one of us that would have or ever did fault him with wanting to talk to Michigan. For God's sakes, we all knew it was his so-said "dream".....although I now wonder if he ever actually said that, or people just assumed it b/c of his history.....But to be crucified in the press for being honest???? How freakin' absurd...One more instance that illustrates the point that as long as you know you did the right thing, then you can rest easy at night. He knows what the did was right, his players know what he did was right, the parents of his recruits know what he did was right, and so do we as a fan base...and that is all that matters
