One of our Hawkeye Forum posters posted some interesting stuff on the NCAA Tourney: It's been 26 years (1979) since the NCAA expanded the field to 40 teams, then to 64 in 1985. In that period, the following: 1) There have been 18 different champions. 2) Of the 334 Division I members, only 46 have ever played in the Final Four. 3) Only 22 teams have been to the Final Four more than once. 4) The winner of LSU/Texas will be the 23rd. 5) Memphis has a chance to be the 24th. Teams that have been to the Final Four since 1979: SEC: Fla, Ky, Miss St, Ark, LSU, Ga ACC: UNC, Duke, GT, Md, Vir, NC St Big 12: Ok St, Tx, Kansas, Okla PAC 10: Az, Stanford, UCLA Old MVC: Lou, Marq, Cincy, DePaul Big East: Uconn, Syr, Seton Hall, Prov, St John, G'town, Nova Big Ten: Ill, MSU, Ind, Wisc, OSU, Minn, Mich, Iowa, Purdue Others: Umass, UNLV, Penn, Houston, Ind St, Utah, Memphis TO ALL READERS: Please note the absence of Wake Forest.
