Agree with BB BB, you've captured my sentiments exactly. I will be very interested to hear Skip's rationale for hiring Miles. What is so damn impressive about him that he blew off combing interest in the NFL ranks? Does Miles really have a $1M buyout? No one, at least not me, is saying that Miles is a bad coach. He is a good coach. But there are a lot of "good" coaches all across the fruited plain. If this was the best that Skip could do, he shouldn't have whetted fans' appetites by claiming he had a huge list with big names interested in the job. That obviously was a huge exaggeration. So Skip has no one to blame for himself for fans' expectations and less-than thrilled attitude towards this hire. Let's see what Miles does. Does he come in here like DiNardo and hire his cronies, or, like Saban, does he comb coaching ranks and hire the best available talent, whether he's worked with them or not? Saban didn't know Fisher from Adam but he knew his rep and he hired him. Despite what people are saying, Fisher is an excellent OC and will be a head coach. :bncry:
But just like Saban, Miles is coaching at a school that plays 2nd-fiddle to a higher power. OSU doesn't have the fascilities that OU has. OSU has to compete with OU, the Texas schools, and us for that matter. He's won "more with less". He's taken OSU, which was a dismal program for so long, to a team that has gone to back-to-back bowls for the first time in quite a while. We're not leaving the mountain top, BB...we're using the same formula that got us there.
And did you hold that same stance 5 years ago, when DiNardo was the out-going coach??? Or better still, when Hallman was brought in?!?!?! No offense, but you're making us sound like we're a bunch of snobs that think we're the greatest thing on earth, and have been and everyone should know it! ...and we're only as good as we are now because we added a piece to our puzzle 5 years ago. That combination of what LSU was already, and the addition of a coach who was in a VERY similar situation as Les Miles, ended up giving us LSU's current position. Remember that!
this one spot above Baylor stuff has to end. Miles lost to Oklahoma, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, and Ohio State...all ranked teams. They lost to OU by 3 points. They guy turned a losing program into a continual top 25 and bowl team, and has a winning record against Bob Stoops. You want to focus on one year, fine.........but that is not what coaching is about. By the way, he played all year with a true freshman QB and made a bowl and nearly beat OU......wonder what OSU would have been like in a year or two???? flame on
