I don't see how Miles is "scrapping the bottom of the barrel". Now, if there was a press conference saying that Buddy Tevens was the next coach, THEN you'd be justified in saying that. As for all the "big names", what if the big names turned down the job? It's entirely possible that some people don't see the LSU job as highly coveted as some of us do. Maybe they're happy where they are or we just couldn't come to terms with them? I think some people just need to unplug from the computer and go watch a movie or spend some time with their families. Just forget about football for a day and relax. There's no point to aggonizing over this and start all the doom and gloom posts. You have no idea what the future holds, so stop acting like you "know" this is such a "bad hire". Who knows, Les Miles could be an excellent fit here and in the Fall you could be praising him...
Look, my point is this: for the first time in history, our AD can get every coach in America to take his phone calls - why rush in? IMO, Les Miles doesn't warrant such a quick decision...
Above and beyond sharing my personal opinion with you, I would like to say... WELCOME TO LSU COACH MILES!!! GEAUX TIGERS!!! For those dishing the bloody negative rep - piss off...
You are kidding yourself if you really believe that we had that kind of pull "every coach" wise to pick from.... If some big-time coach wanted the job....he would have called Skip and asked about it.... I know that is how Mark Richt got the job at UGA....he called their AD, Vince Dooley, and told him he wanted it.
What? Cause some ESPN analyst gives his opinion and says we have one of the best coaching positions in the country, you expect EVERY top-tier coach to come beating down our door??!?! What?! Belichick turned us down?!?! How dare he! We're LSU for crying out loud! BB, I've agreed with MANY a post you've made, but the point you're trying to get across tonight is by far the most self-centered and egotistical post you've ever made. You're trying to make it seem like just because we won a National Title last year, we're equivalent to a 10-title dynasty. We're good. We're proud. We're supportive. We are dedicated to doing whatever it takes to win. But we don't need to be cocky and think that the entire world owes us every Hall of Fame-caliber coach because of who we are.
I have traveled the country several times over and I can assure you that there is no better college football post in all of the land - not even close. The program has been rebuilt and the sky is the limit... For me, the excitement of hiring a new coach has overshadowed the fear and anxiety I have about moving ahead without Coach Saban and maintaining a winning program. That being said, Les Miles is simply not one of the guys who gets me excited. The man can coach, he is highly regarded, and I think he can be successful at any school and on any level - plain and simple, he was WAY down on my personal list that I've compiled here in my little world. I am not being recruited to play football at LSU and I am not the AD. I welcome Les Miles to Baton Rouge and I am excited to have him as a member of our football family. All I'm saying is that the man doesn't tickle my football fancy and he doesn't get my blood pumping. Other than that, I trust he will pick up where Coach Saban left off and I trust that Skip is making the best decision for LSU. That is all I have to say about that... I'm taking a nice long break from TF. I hope everyone has a Happy, Safe, Healthy, and Prosperous 2005! Peace - San Dimas High School Football Rules...
The sabans will miss are fans. Trust me I lived in miami for 8 yrs. Went to every home game phins fans are the worst. Next to jet and bill fans, those people are hurtin.:tigerhead
A truly outstanding post! One of the best balanced and most realistic views I have seen on TF. I concur. Rep points coming.
BB, I am not arguing that LSU is one of the best jobs in the countries (and let me assure you too....I have also traveled to just about every part of this country as well)....but that still does not mean that every coach in the NCAA's will be jumping to go to a job like it.
