Auburn went two years in conference play and lost one game, a nail-biter to you guys... yet they lost two games OOC... GT and the Wissies. Yes, I think USC's chances of running the SEC would be just as good as Auburn's were. Deep Thoughts II by "Hawker" Handey
I don't find anything he said really note worthy. At least not to the point it has been given all of this attention. The media picked it up and ran with it. That said I'd love to see a NC with LSU/USC invloved. Problem is we are in a no win situation. If we win we did it in out back yard...if we lose...well...it was done in our back yard.
In recent years, USC is 4-0 against SEC teams. Home and aways with Auburn and Arkansas. At home, LSU struggled a few years back to beat Oregon St. 22-21 in OT. You barely got past ASU in Tempe 35-31. Playing on the road can be tough, that's my point. Sure you beat up Arizona but so did others and Fresno State again was a home game. All credit to Fresno State for playing freakin' anyone, anywhere though. The point is the talk can go on forever. It would be easy to stop all the talk about SOS, conference strength, etc by simply playing some more non conference teams on the road or tougher OOC opponents. For example, replace Troy, Appalachian St. eek: ), Middle Tennessee, Tulane, LaTech, Vandy, and North Texas with teams like Iowa, Nebraska, Illinois.....you get the idea. And no worries, I like you too Fishhead.
one could objectively rate each defensive unit on USC's team as #1 overall in the country. thats how good they can be much like LSU's defense. No one rivals dorsey in my mind but overall we should be similar. edit: looks like our resident socal chick beat me to the punch although she may be biased a bit.
There are not many teams we can schedule in Div 1 to come here. The AD is real picky about home and away's since they want revenue for 7 home games. Don't forget that Troy was a last minute replacement for Va Tech that decided to bolt from our game and go with the easier time with some west coast team. They get payback on Sept 8th...
Guilty as charged. I typically go into each season with apprehension.........leftover from the hackett era I guess. But this season while we have a few question marks, our linebackers and secondary have the potential to be the best in our history.
3-0 at half? Much like they were for SC in '05. Only difference is no one knew ahead of time that Fresno was gonna suck last year. USC got credit for playing a "giant killer" like Fresno, and beaing them (barely). So us putting them on the schedule is no different than SC doing it (except Fresno turned out to be pretty sh!tty last year).
An interesting story with some good points. While I agree with a lot of what Miles said, I fear that all his remarks did was to give USC ammunition if we should meet. I am sure they will have some of his statements posted in their locker room. One of the first principles of football is "Don't give the enemy ammunition to shoot at you."
Which brings us to this point...nobody knows how the OOC is really gonna go. Crap, Arizona was supposed to be pretty good when we played them a couple of years ago, and we throttled them. HOWEVER, Arizona is the type of team USC plays IN conference. We get to play UF, Auburn, Tenn, Arky, UGA, et al...all Top 10 teams at some point in the very recent past...then if we manage to beat them all for the most part, we get to play the best one of them AGAIN...in the SECCG! You guys get to wrap the season up the "juggernaut" UCLA, before heading to your BCS Bowl Game. Sorry, but the only potential snag I see on USC's schedule this year is @Nebraska, and that's ASSUMING that they are improved enough to play you tougher than expected at home. That said, I bet USC doesn't go undefeated, even with the weak schedule. That's what makes me so sure they couldn't dominate the SEC. We will play, although at our place, at least 4 teams that are tougher than ANYONE on USC's schedule this year. Last year, we played at least 4 teams better than anyone on USC's schedule ON THE ROAD.
