In this particular instance, I'm going to say Alexis Serna suffered from redshirt freshman on the roaditis....especially having to open the season against the NC's. Corvallis isn't exactly a stranger to rain, fog, sleet and other adverse weather conditions (although Alexis is from Upland, CA). All credit to Serna for regaining his confidence and ability........he kicked our butts last year going 4-6.

Playing conditions and special teams are definitely bound. I wasn't around these parts back in 2005 but I'm sure the USC/irish game was talked about. Charlie Weiss joked pre-game about how they'd let the grass grow to slow us down. Well they did and it did, just not enough. Dez Reed suffered a near career ending injury on a kick return because his cleet dug in and it didn't move when he did. Here's a pic (Bush push just for bitter) so you can see. I'll include one of the field the following week against BYU as soon as I can find it.....smooth as a baby's butt.

Freshman hiccups maybe but there seems to be a trend of big kicks missed in Death Valley and I love it. AU fans some times argue that the kicker lost the game for them 2 years ago in Tiger Stadium but since 3 or 4 of the kicks were attempts from longer than his best for the year, I dont buy it. Tommy T put to much on his kicker in that game. If the AU offense could have made another 1st down before trying to give the kicker a shot, I suspect the the game would have turned out different.

I'll bend a little, and give the Arky game this year. On the other 4 (USC/AU-'02, USC/AU-'03. and OSU/LSU-'04) congrats on beating mediocre (at best) teams. I've said before that we were not a good team in '04 despite what our record said. We barely escaped OSU, TROY, and a 4-7 ole miss team by a combined 8 points. Not exactly our finest moment.
Congrats on embarrasing a 4-7 Arky team (at HOME) in '05. Not mention a whopping 7 point win against a 4 loss Auburn (at HOME) team. Hey and beating that '03 Auburn team looked like so much fun, Georgia Tech did it the next week. We smacked them around in October, then Georgia did it as well in November.

Sc does deserve credit for trying to schedule tough OOC games, but much like our series with AZ, it didn't pan out that way in thosse years.

Only 7 of those losses have occured in the last 30 years! 3 of the older ones were against teams not even in the SEC at the time of the game (Carolina-'80, Arky-'73, Florida-'31=before SEC even existed) And another loss (Miss St.-'77), the SEC scored more, but later forfeited, so it shows up in the loss column. That's 11 of the losses that are either from a completely different era, or misleading. Probably the same thing with the wins.

    Not very high.

All I know is I hope that Miles keeps the team focused and doesnt overlook anybody, because we all know that after our first loss (I hope there is none, but the odds are on it) we will catch all kinds of hell, especially if we should lose to VaTech, as they are non conference.

I just don't see that. Losing to Va Tech, considering the national reputation they have for fielding solid defenses, doesn't seem, IMO, to lead to you guys catching hell. Even if some fans started raising hell, I'd be willing to bet they offer very, very little to discussions in the first place.

vball, what you're inferring is that we're delusional because we think USC isnt as good as the media makes them look. You keep bringing up a 2004 game against OSU, a 2005 game against ASU and USC's victory against Arkansas. But you ignore the FACT that USC lost to two UNRANKED opponents just last season. They couldnt do ANYTHING against an UNRANKED UCLA when the media was giving them a free ticket to the BCSNC game. Hell, any team that cant beat an unranked team in their game before the NC doesnt even deserve a top 5 spot. And then there is the loss to another crappy UNRANKED OSU team. And I can understand why you ignore the fact that McFadden hasnt played because you obviously havent seen him. A word of advice, watch some youtube videos, see how he runs all over the same SEC defenses that kicked the crap out of 3 PAC 10 teams this season. Jones is only effective because the defense is all over McFadden because of the threat he possesses on EVERY SINGLE PLAY all through the game.
Nothing personal vball, It's just that Miles is getting me fired up for next season.:thumb:

I guess you missed this from my post just above:

All credit to Serna for regaining his confidence and ability........he kicked our butts last year going 4-6.

And I've REPEATEDLY commented on our pitiful showing and subsequent loss to the ruins.

I don't believe I've ever ignored anything about McFadden. And we do have tellies out here in Cali so I saw plenty of highlights. He was injured when we played yes, I've said as much. When LSU played Arkie, Run DMc gained nearly 200 yards and Jones was at 142. I guess you missed some of my earlier comments about the two of them being amongst the best RB's in the SEC.

I have never stated that SC belonged in the NC game after our loss to utla. However, losing late or losing early still shows the same number in the W/L column.

I'm glad CLM has fired you up. And apologies if my comments came across as implying delusion on the part of LSU fans.
