We're all worried about the stadium being done which is a legit concern, but what about Mike's cage? I havent really heard anything on it and I'm sorry if I'm bringin up old news. Also, where did the funding for it come? It couldnt have all been TAF huh?

    Years of special fundraising.

When it's finished, they will bring him back to campus.

He is presently at the zoo - I hear his digs at the zoo are mighty plush...

You can find out all about it right here:

The old "cage" was still in use when I was a student in the '70s. It was a tragic place for an animal. It was said that Mike III never touched real earth and grass in his life. I remember there being lots of discussion in the mid-70s about how inhumane the cage was and LSU came up with some "expert" who said the cage was adequate for at least 12 tigers. The habitat that was just bulldozed was better, but still not worthy of Mike.

The plans for the new habitat look great and the university (and all those who care for our majestic bengal tiger) should be congratulated for doing the right thing after all these years.

By the way, does anyone know what may have been done with the original portion of the tiger cage - especially the motif around the sides that had the carvings of football players? That was historic. I hope it was salvaged.

That habitat is huge. Looks like its going to be pretty damn sweet. It almost seems to be a little much for the Tiger. Thats a big jump from 2,000 to 15,000 square feet. It's def going to add on to the beautiful campus nicely though.

In another 20 years 15,000 feet will be considered inadequate by many and some group will start lobbying to double that.

Thats when TAF will step in and raise a couple hundred Million to build a new space age habitat for Mike VII.

The original wasn't much more than a glorified dog house.
