I read the following in this morning's Advocate Sports section:

Miles said there are many variables to having late-season success, but he noted there are constants.

“I think it’s different every year,” Miles said.

“I think those teams that have the character and the want and are ambitious at the back half (of the season) may see so much to gain. I think those are the teams that play well in November.

“I think those teams that play with championship spirit understand that the key contests are always at the end of the year. They’re never at the start. Whether you win every one, you win championships in November.”

I don't understand how he could say such an asinine thing - especially after losing two pivotal early games this year.

Did he not consider the Auburn or Florida games "key contests"?

Perhaps someone should tell him that while it is indeed important to play with a "championship spirit" towards the end of the year, if you lose the other "contests" early on in the season, there may be no chance to win one of those championships in November.

    :dis:

Probably just trying to motivate the current team right now.... There's still a lot to play for, etc etc..

    Correct

I don't feel he was downplaying key games...just need to finish strong is all.

Maybe Miles talks on a wavelength that we were not meant to understand?

I don't think the players need any more motivation for this game. They know what is at stake.

Regardless - if he's trying to say that the games at the end of the year are important, I would agree.

But he said that the key contests are never early in the season, and that you only win championships in November.

I know he's not the best with words. And I'm sure he doesn't really think that the Auburn and Florida games didn't matter.

However -- He still did say that key contests are never early in the season, and that you only win championships in November. And I think that doesn't make a bit of sense.

Perhaps it is the "different wavelength". lol

I agree with Gradin99, has to be his intention cause he knows better than that.

Tell that to Miami/Florida St. with their opener against each other. :yelwink2:

Wasn't Auburn slated for later in the year and changed? I believe that this is going to be MORE true next year. I think the more pivotal games are later. But I could be wrong.:usaflagwa LSU! :usaflagwa
